Time’s Convert is the fourth novel in Deborah Harkness’s All Souls series, but its story has not been announced as a TV adaptation. The book shifts focus to vampire Marcus de Clermont and Phoebe Taylor, while tracing Marcus’s origins during the American Revolution.
Is Time’s Convert the plot of A Discovery of Witches season 4?
No. The available official sources do not announce a fourth-season adaptation. AMC described the television series as an adaptation of the All Souls trilogy, with its then-announced second and third seasons bringing the trilogy’s remaining stories to screen. That announcement concerned the trilogy and those seasons; it does not rule out a future adaptation.
Harkness’s official All Souls FAQ addresses whether Time’s Convert and the later novel The Black Bird Oracle will be adapted for television. She says she wants to write books rather than produce television “for now,” adding: “So, never say never, but not right now.” That is the clearest current answer: no adaptation is announced, though the author has not ruled one out permanently.
What happens in Time’s Convert?
The fourth All Souls novel braids Marcus’s past with his present. During the American Revolution, he is a young surgeon from Massachusetts when Matthew de Clermont offers him immortality. Marcus accepts, seeking a life beyond the limits of his Puritan upbringing. His ideals of liberty, equality, and brotherhood then collide with the de Clermont family’s old traditions and responsibilities.
#1 Best Overall
In the contemporary storyline, Marcus falls in love with Phoebe Taylor, a Sotheby’s employee preparing to become a vampire herself. Their relationship unfolds alongside the challenges of transformation and the weight of Marcus’s buried history. The novel moves between the American colonies during the Revolutionary War and modern Paris and London.
In short, this is Marcus’s origin story and his relationship with Phoebe—not a continuation centered on Diana and Matthew. The publisher’s synopsis establishes those central threads but does not provide a complete ending, so a fuller account of the final outcome cannot be confirmed from it.

How does the book fit the All Souls series?
Time’s Convert follows the original trilogy: A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, and The Book of Life. Harkness’s official reading order then places The Black Bird Oracle fifth; her FAQ gives its publication date as July 16, 2024.
The distinction matters if you are coming from the television series. Netflix Tudum describes the show’s premise as Oxford scholar and reluctant witch Diana Bishop finding the enchanted manuscript Ashmole 782 and falling for vampire Matthew Clairmont. Time’s Convert belongs to the same book series, but its main focus is Marcus and Phoebe.
