Usagi Tsukino is Sailor Moon: a schoolgirl who becomes a guardian of love and justice after meeting the talking cat Luna. Her core team is Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus. The cast grows with each season, and the Japanese voice performers differ between the original 1990s anime and Sailor Moon Crystal.
Who is Sailor Moon?
Usagi Tsukino is the central character. In Toei Animation’s official premise, Luna gives Usagi a brooch that lets her transform into Sailor Moon. VIZ describes Usagi as a kindhearted teenager whose allies share similar fates and form a team of planetary Sailor Guardians. The first conflict in Crystal centers on Queen Metalia, the Dark Kingdom, and the Legendary Silver Crystal, which Tuxedo Mask is also seeking. Toei Animation’s series catalog and VIZ’s Sailor Moon page provide the official premise and adaptation context.

How the cast changes in Sailor Moon Crystal
Crystal is a separate adaptation, not simply another season of the 1990s anime. VIZ describes it as a retelling of Sailor Moon’s origins based on Naoko Takeuchi’s graphic novel series. The five central Japanese voice credits are:
| Character | Crystal Japanese performer |
|---|---|
| Usagi Tsukino / Sailor Moon | Kotono Mitsuishi |
| Ami Mizuno / Sailor Mercury | Hisako Kanemoto |
| Rei Hino / Sailor Mars | Rina Satō |
| Makoto Kino / Sailor Jupiter | Ami Koshimizu |
| Minako Aino / Sailor Venus | Shizuka Itō |
Toei’s Crystal cast listing retains Mitsuishi as Usagi’s performer; the other four listed performers differ from the original anime credits. These are Japanese credits only, not a complete English-language roster.

Original anime season additions
The original television series ran across five named seasons. Toei’s English catalog lists Sailor Moon (46 episodes, 1992); Sailor Moon R (43 episodes, numbered 47–89, 1993); Sailor Moon S (38 episodes, numbered 90–127, 1994); Sailor Moon SuperS (39 episodes, numbered 128–166, 1995); and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (34 episodes, numbered 167–200, 1996). The separate 51-minute TV special listed for SuperS is additional to those 200 episodes. The catalog describes the series format as 200 episodes of 26 minutes each.
Sailor Moon S
This season foregrounds four significant Guardian additions: Haruka Tenoh, Michiru Kaioh, Setsuna Meioh, and Hotaru Tomoe. The listed Japanese performers are Megumi Ogata (Haruka), Masako Katsuki (Michiru), Chiyoko Kawashima (Setsuna), and Yūko Minaguchi (Hotaru). The season cast listing also includes Chibi-Usa, voiced by Kae Araki, plus Kaolinite (Noriko Uemura) and Professor Tomoe (Akira Kamiya). See Toei’s S cast page.

SuperS adds several named groups and characters to the roster. Toei lists Diana (Kumiko Nishihara) and Pegasus (Taiki Matsuno), as well as these antagonists:
- Amazon Trio: Tiger’s Eye (Ryōtarō Okiayu), Hawk’s Eye (Toshio Furukawa), and Fish Eye (Akira Ishida).
- Amazoness Quartet: PallaPalla (Michiko Toyoshima), CereCere (Yūri Amano), JunJun (Kumiko Watanabe), and VesVes (Junko Hagimori).
- Other listed antagonists: Zirconia (Hisako Kyōda) and Queen Nehelenia (Yoshiko Sakakibara).
These are Japanese credits from Toei’s SuperS cast page.

How to match a character with the right performer
When looking up a voice credit, check the adaptation first: the 1990s anime and Crystal have separate Japanese cast listings. Then check the season or arc, the character’s alias, and the language track. A Japanese performer listed for an anime role is not evidence of who voiced that character in an English dub; the official credits cited here do not establish a complete English-dub roster.
