If you mean the original 9anime or its successor, AniWave, there is no local technical fix: AniWave announced a permanent shutdown in August 2024. The announcement, published in the anime-piracy community, also warned that sites claiming to be 9anime or AniWave could be fake. See the shutdown announcement. If an unrelated website is failing, or you are diagnosing a legitimate streaming service, the checks below can identify a browser, device, DNS, or network problem without sending you to an unverified mirror.
Is 9anime down, or is it gone?
Community moderation guidance says 9anime rebranded as AniWave in August 2023. In August 2024, an AniWave community announcement said the service had permanently shut down and cautioned users about purported replacement domains. That is community-published information rather than a conventional corporate support page, so treat it as an attributed announcement—not proof that every site using the name is malicious.

A search result containing “9anime” or “AniWave” is not evidence of an official replacement. Changing DNS, using a VPN, installing an app, or disabling security software cannot bring back a discontinued service. A VPN can alter routing, and DNS repair can solve a genuinely broken lookup, but neither validates the destination.
The related community notice is available at r/aniwave. Do not enter passwords, payment details, or email addresses on an unfamiliar successor domain.

What “not working” usually means
| Symptom | Most likely explanation | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Domain does not resolve | Dead domain, DNS fault, network/ISP issue, or an untrusted domain | Verify the address, test other sites, then flush DNS if the wider connection works |
| “This site can’t be reached” | Network, DNS, firewall, or server problem | Try another browser and network; restart the router |
| Blank page or broken layout | Cache, cookies, JavaScript, extension, or blocked scripts | Use a private window, test extensions, and clear that site’s data |
| Endless loading | Server failure, blocked third-party resources, or an overloaded connection | Test another device/browser; do not install an unknown player |
| Video does not play | Unavailable embed host, blocked script, unsupported browser, or defunct service | Test a clean browser; use a licensed service rather than downloading a codec |
| HTTPS or certificate warning | Wrong device clock, invalid certificate, or unsafe site | Do not proceed; correct the clock and leave the page |
| Pop-ups or repeated redirects | High-risk advertising or malicious redirection | Close the tab, revoke notification permission, and scan the device |
| Only one device fails | Device or browser configuration | Use private browsing, update the browser, and clear site data |
| Every website fails | Internet, router, ISP, or DNS outage | Restart network equipment and contact the ISP if it continues |
Google lists device settings, security software, routers, cookies, extensions, memory, and site outages among common Chrome loading causes (Chrome troubleshooting). Mozilla lists security software, system time, DNS cache, wireless connectivity, ISP problems, and DNS servers for failures across browsers (Mozilla troubleshooting).
A safe diagnostic path
1. Confirm the address
- Read the full address bar, including the spelling and top-level domain.
- Do not trust a result merely because it includes “9anime” or “AniWave.”
- Leave pages that demand an extension, “special codec,” APK, media player, or notification permission.
- Stop if the page redirects repeatedly or shows a certificate warning.
2. Separate a site problem from an internet problem
- Open two or three unrelated, reputable websites.
- Try the same address in another browser.
- Try another device on the same Wi-Fi, then cellular data or a different network.
If all browsers and devices fail, focus on the router, ISP, DNS, or service availability rather than browser cache.
3. Use a private window
Open Incognito in Chrome or Edge, a Private Window in Firefox, and test once. If the page works there, an extension or stored site data is a likely cause.
4. Test extensions temporarily
Disable ad blockers, script and privacy tools, VPN/proxy extensions, antivirus browser add-ons, and customization tools. Reload once, then re-enable them one at a time. Do not leave security protections disabled; Google recommends this one-at-a-time test.

5. Remove only the affected site’s data
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies or Site settings → view permissions and data → delete the domain.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → search the domain → Remove.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → See all cookies and site data.
Labels vary by version; search Settings for “site data,” “cookies,” or “cache.”
6. Update and restart
Install browser updates, fully quit and reopen the browser, and restart the device. Never install an “urgent browser update” offered by a pop-up on the failing page.
7. Restart the network
Restart the modem/router. Public Wi-Fi may require a sign-in portal. If the page works on mobile data but not home Wi-Fi, investigate router DNS, ISP filtering, parental controls, or local firewall settings.
8. Flush DNS on Windows
Open Command Prompt and run:
ipconfig /flushdns
The expected response is Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache. Close and reopen the browser. On macOS, Mozilla recommends restarting the Mac to flush DNS; do not apply a Linux command as a universal macOS solution.

9. Check time and security controls
Set the date, time, and time zone automatically. Check antivirus, firewall, parental-control, workplace, or school filtering for an accidental block. Do not permanently disable protection to reach an unknown domain. For broad infrastructure incidents, consult Cloudflare’s status page; its troubleshooting guide explains that a CDN status does not prove a particular site is legitimate.
Fixes by error message
“This site can’t be reached” or DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
Check the spelling, test another network, restart the router, and flush DNS on Windows. NXDOMAIN can mean the domain no longer exists; no browser setting can resurrect it.
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Try another browser and network. A firewall, ISP filter, overloaded server, or permanently offline service can all produce a timeout.
ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
Clear only that site’s cookies and data, then test privately. Repeated redirects on an unfamiliar domain are a reason to leave, not to keep clicking.

ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT
An extension or local privacy tool commonly caused this message. Test by disabling extensions briefly, then restore the one responsible or keep the site blocked if it is untrusted.
HTTPS or certificate warning
Check the device clock, but do not click through. An invalid certificate can indicate an unsafe or misconfigured destination.
Blank page or video stuck loading
Test private browsing, a current browser, and another network; clear site data and check extensions. If the page loads but its embedded host is dead, the viewer cannot repair that host. Never install a codec, APK, extension, or “special player” from a pop-up.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Protect yourself from fake 9anime and AniWave sites
- Do not follow lists of unverified mirror domains or assume branding means official status.
- Do not enter credentials or payment information.
- Block notification requests. In Chrome or Edge, use Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications; in Firefox, use Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Notifications → Settings. Remove the domain.
- Reject downloads offered as players, codecs, browser updates, or APKs.
- Leave certificate-warning pages and scan the device after unexpected downloads or aggressive redirects.
The shutdown announcement and moderation notice specifically warned about purported 9anime/AniWave replacements. Those are community warnings, not an independent regulator’s finding, but they justify treating unsolicited replacement domains as high risk.

What to use instead
If you want licensed anime streaming, check availability in your country before subscribing. Neither option restores 9anime/AniWave.
Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll is the broadest anime-first replacement among the services covered here, with anime-focused features, ad-free tiers, offline downloads on eligible plans, and simultaneous streams. Its U.S. pricing announcement dated February 2, 2026 lists Fan at $9.99/month, Mega Fan at $13.99/month, and Ultimate Fan at $17.99/month; it also advertised a limited-time Fan annual plan at $66.99/year. Prices, taxes, promotions, and availability can vary. See the official pricing announcement. The standard trial is seven days, with automatic billing unless canceled (trial terms).
HIDIVE
HIDIVE can be a lower-cost complement when its catalog contains a particular exclusive. Its U.S. signup information dated August 16, 2026 lists $6.99/month or $69.99/year plus applicable taxes; billing information is required and billing begins seven days after signup. Details are on HIDIVE’s support page. Catalog and territory support are narrower, so verify a desired title first.
When to stop troubleshooting
- You are trying to revive the original AniWave service, which was announced as permanently shut down.
- The domain fails across devices and networks.
- The page shows a certificate or malware warning.
- It demands suspicious downloads, permissions, credentials, or payment details.
At that point, close the site and choose a legitimate service rather than searching for another domain with the same name.
