Updated October 7, 2026: Season 9 of ABC’s 9-1-1 has finished airing, so a preview of its “new captain” and crossover plans is now a retrospective. Here is what was established before and during the season—and what the available sources do not confirm.
What was known about 9-1-1 Season 9?
ABC’s official episode guide lists Season 9 episodes from October 10, 2025, through the finale, “Hearts and Flowers,” on May 8, 2026. The season is complete; its episodes are no longer upcoming news. ABC’s episode guide also describes the series as a drama about first responders balancing emergency work with personal problems.
ABC lists Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, and Ryan Guzman among the cast, and identifies Tim Minear as the original series’ showrunner. Those details establish the show’s ensemble and leadership, but they do not answer who served as the 118’s captain during Season 9.
Who is the new captain on 9-1-1?
The available official episode guide and the interview discussed below do not establish the identity or season-long status of a person replacing Bobby Nash as 118 captain. They also do not confirm a captain’s appointment, tenure, or outcome. A name or character arc should not be inferred from the preview wording alone.

Will 9-1-1 cross over with 9-1-1: Nashville?
There was a public plan for a larger crossover. In a November 13, 2025, TV Guide interview, 9-1-1: Nashville co-creator and showrunner Rashad Raisani said a more substantial crossover was in development for the second half of the season. He said it would bring characters from the original series to Nashville in person: “We’re in the works on a more muscular crossover, the scope of which will definitely involve some characters from the mothership coming in person.”
That was Raisani’s description of plans at the time of the interview, not a current prediction or confirmation of which characters ultimately appeared. The statement supports the intended scope—an in-person appearance by original-series characters—while the sources cited here do not establish the participating characters or verify how the plan played out on screen.

How to read the season 9 preview now
The preview’s two hooks have different evidentiary status. A crossover was discussed publicly as a plan in November 2025, while the captain question remains unconfirmed by the sources cited here. ABC’s episode guide establishes that the season has since aired through its May 8, 2026 finale, but a completed season alone does not verify either a captain’s identity or the crossover’s final lineup.
