Spoilers for Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 and the series finale. The final five episodes, released on Netflix on February 13, 2025, bring the 15-episode sixth season—and the series—to a close. Their strongest choice is to put Johnny Lawrence back at the emotional center, while letting the Sekai Taikai deliver the outsized fights the show has always promised. The weaker one is how little room the finish leaves for parts of its younger ensemble.
What works in Cobra Kai’s final episodes
1. Johnny gets the emotional center back
After the series spent substantial time with Daniel and Miyagi-Do, the final stretch brings the story back to Johnny. That shift gives the ending a clear emotional anchor: this is not only a tournament conclusion, but a reckoning with the man Johnny has been trying to become. The A.V. Club also noted the renewed focus on Johnny in its February 13, 2025 review.
2. Johnny finally says what Kreese did to him
The confrontation between Johnny and his former sensei pays off a relationship built on admiration, harm, and unresolved anger. Co-creator Jon Hurwitz described it as the moment Johnny could acknowledge both sides: “So this scene was the culmination where Johnny was finally able to say in his heart and bear his soul and express how he truly felt: that you did teach me some amazing things, but you broke me in these ways.” (TheWrap, February 14, 2025.) The scene matters because Johnny can name the damage without pretending that everything he learned from Kreese was worthless.
3. Kreese’s apology offers a qualified resolution
Kwon’s death forces Kreese to face the consequences of the rage he has cultivated. His apology to Johnny does not erase years of abuse or turn him into a harmless mentor; it gives their relationship an ending that recognizes the harm. Hurwitz put the qualification plainly: “I think he is redeemed as much as Sensei Kreese can be.” (TVLine, February 15, 2025.) That is a more fitting measure for Kreese than uncomplicated absolution.

4. The tournament climax makes action serve character
Johnny facing Wolf in a Sekai Taikai tiebreaker is spectacle, but it also gives the final fight a personal stake. Co-creator Josh Heald described the intended approach to TheWrap as “It’s ‘Rocky IV,’ you know. It’s bloodier, it’s sweatier, it’s more brutal in certain ways.” (February 14, 2025.) The bout leans into the series’ grand, bruising style while paying off Johnny’s return to the center of the story.
5. Daniel can love Miyagi without knowing everything about him
The revelations about Mr. Miyagi’s past could have reduced Daniel’s mentor to a puzzle with a neat answer. Instead, the creators describe Daniel reaching a point where he accepts that he will never know everything about the man he loved. That choice gives the legacy more emotional texture: Daniel can honor Miyagi without preserving an idealized, complete version of him.

6. The show keeps its distinctive mix of melodrama and absurdity
The finale does not become a solemn drama just because it is ending. The A.V. Club’s review points to the series’ continuing blend of choreographed fights, hair-metal cues, comic villainy, and melodrama. That tonal combination can be ridiculous by design, but it is part of Cobra Kai’s identity—and the last episodes retain it alongside their more serious farewells.
7. Familiar franchise history still has room to surprise
TheWrap praised the way the series reframes familiar history and brings back legacy characters including Bobby and Ali. Those returns give long-time viewers a sense of continuity without making the ending only a parade of callbacks. The best use of franchise memory is not recognition for its own sake; it is seeing how old relationships and choices look from the characters’ present-day perspective.

8. The younger cast’s conflicts still have messy consequences
The tournament roster drama gives the younger characters choices that are not neatly heroic. Netflix’s February 13, 2025 recap reports that Devon sabotages Kenny’s water with laxatives to gain a place, while Hawk initially misses the roster before a later change. That kind of complication fits a show where ambition, loyalty, and insecurity often collide. The roster machinations add a distinct thread of pressure even when not every young character gets equal payoff.
What falls short
1. Several younger characters get too little consequential material
The A.V. Club review says the consequential arcs concentrate on Miguel, Robby, Sam, and Tory, and warns that fans of Hawk and Demetri may be left wanting. That imbalance is especially noticeable because the series built its appeal around a broad student ensemble. Hawk’s roster setback is a concrete beat, but a moment of tournament drama is not the same as a substantial closing arc.

2. Julie Pierce never returns
For viewers hoping the finale would connect Cobra Kai to every corner of the Karate Kid film legacy, the absence of Hillary Swank’s Julie Pierce is a conspicuous omission. TheWrap noted that Swank does not reprise the role. Whether that feels like a genuine gap depends on how much a viewer wanted The Next Karate Kid folded into the series; it is a missed opportunity for some, not a flaw every viewer will share.
3. Five episodes have to carry a crowded set of endings
Part 3 is the final five episodes of a 15-episode season, and the story is closing multiple rivalries, relationships, and character arcs at once. The result can feel compressed: the show has to move among Johnny and Kreese, Daniel and Miyagi’s legacy, the tournament, and the younger cast’s remaining conflicts. That is an editorial judgment about the pacing, not a measured consensus, but the density of resolutions makes some threads feel less fully developed than the central ones.

4. Kreese and Silver’s ending may be too much for its own good
The rivalry ends with a yacht explosion, and both men are presumed dead in the cited recaps. TIME’s February 13, 2025 account notes that Silver learns early in the final episodes that he is terminally ill, giving his last push for legacy a stated motive. TIME also describes the explosive conflict as exciting and funny; that comic-book excess is likely to delight viewers who enjoy the show’s biggest swings, but it can feel over-the-top as a resolution to a long-running feud.

These are editorial categories, not a survey of viewers or a claim that every fan will share the same verdict. The positive points emphasize the character resolutions and showmanship the finale delivers; the criticisms focus on uneven attention, one absent legacy character, compressed storytelling, and tonal excess. The episodes are at their best when the spectacle grows out of character history, and least satisfying when the final stretch has more threads to close than time to give each one.
