Seven watches associated with rock ’n’ roll
Time+Tide’s original list presents its selections “in no particular order.” The stories range from a watch visible in a film to collector histories and reported sightings; they do not all carry the same level of documentation.
Elvis Presley — Hamilton Ventura
Hamilton’s history says the triangular Ventura appeared on Presley in the 1961 musical comedy Blue Hawaii. Hamilton describes the Ventura as the world’s first electric watch, powered by an electromagnetic coil. This supports the film association, but not Time+Tide’s broader description of it as Presley’s favorite watch. Mick Jagger — Heuer Carrera
Time+Tide points to photographs collected by OnTheDash showing Jagger wearing Heuer watches, including Carreras, a Monaco and an Autavia. The list selects the Carrera, but the cited material does not establish a particular reference or imply that it was his only Heuer.

John Lennon — gold Patek Philippe triple-date chronograph
Time+Tide says Lennon wore a gold Patek Philippe triple-date chronograph on his 40th birthday. The retrieved account does not give a reference number, so the identification is best kept at the model-description level.
Sammy Davis Jr. — Heuer Monaco
The list identifies a Monaco on Davis during a 1972 USO tour of Vietnam, paired with military fatigues. The account does not independently verify the pictured watch or specify its reference.

Stephen Stills — Rolex Submariner
Time+Tide pairs Stills with a Rolex Submariner, without naming a reference in the account. It is therefore a model-family attribution rather than a precise identification.
Eric Clapton — Patek Philippe and Rolex
Time+Tide describes Clapton as a serious collector with vintage Rolex and Patek Philippe watches. Phillips provides additional auction-history context: its article says it sold 16 different watches once owned by Clapton over the nine-year period it describes. That is a count of watches Phillips sold, not a tally of Clapton’s entire collection.

Phillips also documents a circa-2009 Rolex GMT-Master II given to Clapton by Paul Stewart. Its caseback is engraved “TO ERIC SO MANY THANKS PAUL 2009.” This illustrates one documented watch in the broader collecting story; auction activity or a past sale figure should not be read as a current valuation. John Mayer — Patek Philippe and vintage Rolex
Time+Tide characterizes Mayer’s collection as leaning toward Patek Philippe and vintage Rolex, and highlights a Patek Philippe chronograph. The account does not identify an exact reference. It also mentions a watch-related lawsuit, but that historical mention does not establish the matter’s current status.

How strong are the watch identifications?
The list is useful as a starting point for musician-watch stories, but its entries are not equally specific. Hamilton independently corroborates the Ventura’s appearance on Presley in Blue Hawaii; Phillips supplies further auction documentation for Clapton. For the other pairings, the cited list supports the reported associations, while exact references or independent provenance are not established here.
Presley’s Ventura story is not the only watch story associated with him. The Elvis Presley Museum describes a gold-filled Lord Elgin that it attributes to Presley and says he gave to Scotty Moore in 1956. That is a separate account from the Ventura’s later film appearance, not a contradiction. Another musician-watch story: Paul Newman’s Daytona
Paul Newman is not one of the seven entries, but Rolex’s official history offers a useful point of comparison. Rolex says Joanne Woodward gave Newman a Cosmograph Daytona engraved “DRIVE CAREFULLY, ME” before filming Winning. On the same page, racing driver and Rolex Testimonee Sir Jackie Stewart says: “The Rolex Daytona I am wearing was given to me in the late sixties in Monaco for winning one of the legendary races. I’ve kept it all those years and I still wear it a lot.” These examples show how personal gifts, inscriptions and first-person accounts can add context to a watch’s association with a public figure.
