The best Easter movie depends on what you mean by “Easter”: a story about Jesus, a film set around Easter customs, or simply a springtime watch. These seven picks cover all four angles, from biblical drama and a Broadway musical to chocolate-shop romance and decidedly adult bunny comedy. They are not all family films, so check the tone and age guidance before choosing for a group.
How these films connect to Easter
Some picks have a direct holiday connection; others fit through religious subject matter, Lent, springtime atmosphere or Easter customs. That distinction matters: this is a broad holiday roundup, not seven children’s Easter stories.

Seven Easter movies, and what to expect
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988): a challenging biblical drama
Martin Scorsese’s film, adapted from Nikos Kazantzakis’s novel, imagines Jesus confronting human fears and doubts. Its treatment of its characters is mature, and the film is R-rated; it is better suited to adults seeking a serious, provocative religious drama than to a general family movie night.
Easter Parade (1948): a holiday musical classic
Judy Garland and Fred Astaire star as Broadway performers in an Irving Berlin musical set amid Easter Sunday traditions. Choose it for a classic Hollywood blend of songs, dancing and holiday atmosphere. Common Sense Media recommends it for ages 6 and up; that is the guide’s assessment, not a substitute for a parent’s judgment. Common Sense Media’s Easter movie guide includes age and content guidance.

Ben-Hur (1959): an epic with a biblical-era setting
Judah Ben-Hur’s story unfolds in the era of Jesus and intersects with his story. The famous chariot race supplies the spectacle, while the film’s themes of forgiveness give it a more reflective dimension. It is the pick here for viewers who want a sweeping historical drama rather than a movie centered on Easter customs.
Chocolat (2000): a Lent-season romance
In this romantic drama, a woman opens a chocolate shop in a French town during Lent, unsettling local conventions. Its seasonal link is the tension between restraint and pleasure, not an Easter story for children. The tone is adult, making it a good choice for viewers after a food-centered, character-led drama.
Rank #2
Miss Potter (2006): a springlike storybook choice
Renée Zellweger portrays author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. Easter is never mentioned; the film earns its place through Potter’s affection for animals and its gentle, springlike mood. Pick it for a softer biographical story, not for a plot about the holiday.
Steel Magnolias (1989): Easter in a story about friendship and grief
This ensemble drama includes an Easter egg hunt, but its larger emotional arc is about close relationships, humor and loss. It is a tearjerker as well as a comedy, so be mindful of the grief-centered material when choosing it for a group.
Rank #3
Hank and Mike (2008): a very adult take on Easter bunnies
Two humanoid Easter bunnies lose their jobs in this offbeat comedy. The premise is holiday-specific, but the film is R-rated and irreverent—not a children’s bunny movie. Save it for adults who want an unconventional holiday comedy.
Which Easter movie should you choose?
- For a faith-centered, serious watch: The Last Temptation of Christ or Ben-Hur.
- For Easter customs and a classic musical: Easter Parade.
- For a seasonal story rather than an Easter plot: Chocolat or Miss Potter.
- For holiday details alongside a strong emotional story: Steel Magnolias.
- For an adult comedy built around Easter characters: Hank and Mike.

Streaming, rental and purchase catalogs vary by country and change over time. Tom’s Guide reported options in its April 18, 2025 update, but those listings are not a guarantee of current availability. Check the title in your country and confirm whether it is included with a subscription or requires a rental or purchase. For a separate, changing guide to children’s Easter films in the United States, JustWatch’s 2026 guide says it checked 373 services on October 3–4, 2026; its listings are a dated snapshot, not a promise of present availability.
