The Fifty Fruits of Pride: A Self-Diagnostic is an online Christian devotional list attributed to Brent Detwiler. Reposts from 2011 identify the work and describe using it for reflection, but the list’s full wording is not available in the accessible sources cited here. That means its 50 entries, order, explanations, and Scripture references cannot be verified or responsibly reproduced.

What is “The Fifty Fruits of Pride”?

The title shown in a February 2011 repost is The Fifty Fruits of Pride: A Self-Diagnostic. The repost attributes the compilation to Brent Detwiler and links to an original post on Gospelcentric. A January 2011 post also identifies Detwiler as the writer and describes the linked material as a post about fruits of pride.

Those records support describing it as a Christian devotional self-diagnostic: a list intended to prompt reflection about pride. They do not establish that it is a clinical assessment, a validated scale, or a published book.

Can you read the 50 entries?

The accessible reposts do not include the list, and the original Gospelcentric page could not be retrieved in the cited reporting. As a result, the exact entries, their ordering, any explanations, and the scriptural basis remain unverified. It would be misleading to present another pride checklist—or a reconstructed list from memory—as Detwiler’s text.

The February 2011 repost by Denise, titled “50 Fruits of Pride”, attributes the list to Detwiler, links to the original, and advises readers to proceed with discernment. That caution belongs to the repost’s author; it is not an independent finding about the list’s accuracy.

How readers described using it

In a January 2011 post, Jason Kanz described returning to the list for prayer and self-examination, asking for help in responding to what he saw in himself. This is one reader’s account of a devotional practice, not evidence that the list produces a particular result or has broad reception.

Kanz’s post, “50 fruits of Spiritual Pride”, also identifies Detwiler as the writer but does not reproduce the entries. Its title uses a related phrase; it does not establish a separate edition or a different list.

Was it intended to become a book?

September 2006 correspondence reproduced in Brent Detwiler’s document archive concerns messages and an outline called “The 50 Fruits of Pride.” Detwiler asked C.J. Mahaney about submitting them to Crossway and Multnomah for consideration. In a September 2, 2006 email, Detwiler wrote, “I am very content not do anything with it. It really is not my focus – I don’t have ambitions to get it published.” The archive says he dropped the matter and did not contact publishers; this account is based on the correspondence reproduced there, not independent confirmation from either publisher.

What can be established—and what cannot

  • Established: the title The Fifty Fruits of Pride: A Self-Diagnostic, its attribution to Detwiler in two 2011 reposts, and one reader’s description of using it for prayer and self-examination.
  • Not established: the exact wording or sequence of the 50 entries, the list’s explanations or biblical references, a validated assessment method, or a verified alternative edition.
  • Publication context: Detwiler’s archived 2006 correspondence records that publisher outreach was considered and then abandoned; it does not support describing the work as a published book.
