Start with the conflict that sounds most compelling: Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Mr. McMahon for rebel-versus-boss drama, Austin versus The Rock for a three-WrestleMania rivalry, Shawn Michaels versus The Undertaker for career-ending stakes, John Cena versus The Rock for a compact two-match story, or Cena versus Daniel Bryan for an underdog challenge. These are story starting points, not verified Netflix playlists: search your local Netflix catalog for the named events or performers, since availability varies by country and can change.
How to choose a WWE story arc
The most approachable WWE rivalries have a clear conflict and a few milestones that show how it changes. Use these distinctions to pick a starting point:
- Want a simple premise? Austin versus McMahon pits a rebellious star against the company’s authority figure.
- Want a short event-based binge? Cena versus The Rock has two defining WrestleMania matches.
- Want a rivalry with a clear consequence? Michaels versus The Undertaker builds to a career-at-stake rematch.
- Want a three-chapter rivalry? Austin versus The Rock spans WrestleManias XV, X-Seven, and 19.
- Prefer an underdog story? Cena versus Bryan contrasts an established star with a challenger whose path was less conventional.
1. Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Mr. McMahon: rebel against the boss
This is the easiest conflict to grasp without knowing WWE history: Austin defies McMahon, the authority figure who tries to control him. WWE dates the feud’s beginning to late 1997, when Austin reacted to McMahon stripping him of the Intercontinental Championship. WWE’s official Steve Austin profile says, “The pair’s hostile feud epitomized the Attitude Era.”
The story is not a neat sequence of a few matches. It unfolds across weekly television and event moments, making it a useful entry point into the broader Attitude Era but a less compact binge than a rivalry defined by a handful of WrestleManias. Search your local Netflix catalog for Austin or McMahon, and check which related episodes and documentaries are actually available.

2. Stone Cold Steve Austin versus The Rock: three WrestleMania chapters
For a rivalry with a clear event-by-event shape, follow Austin and The Rock through their three WrestleMania meetings. WWE’s retrospective records a beginning, a major reversal, and a final chapter:
| Event | Story milestone |
|---|---|
| WrestleMania XV | Austin regained the WWE Championship. |
| WrestleMania X-Seven | Austin allied with McMahon to defeat The Rock and win the title—a striking reversal for a feud built around Austin’s conflict with authority. |
| WrestleMania 19 | The Rock won their final WrestleMania encounter. |
Watch those events in chronological order to see the rivalry’s shift in tone and outcome. This is WWE’s selected historical rivalry, not a ranking based on an independently measured audience poll.

3. The Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels: obsession and career stakes
This rivalry centers on Michaels’ growing fixation with ending The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak. Their WrestleMania XXV match did not settle that pursuit. Michaels then put his career on the line for a rematch at WrestleMania XXVI, where he lost and ended his in-ring career.
The two events make a particularly self-contained story: the first match leaves the goal unresolved, and the rematch gives the rivalry a consequence beyond a title or a win. Start with WrestleManias XXV and XXVI; you do not need to watch either performer’s entire career to follow this arc.

4. John Cena versus The Rock: a two-match tentpole
This rivalry brings together WWE’s established leading star and a returning global celebrity. WWE’s account says The Rock returned to host WrestleMania XXVII and cost Cena a WWE Championship opportunity. The Rock then defeated Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII; Cena won their rematch at WrestleMania 29.
For the most direct watch path, view those two matches in order. WWE also has a video titled “The story of John Cena vs. The Rock – WrestleMania rivalry (2011-13),” but its availability on Netflix is not established for every region. Look for it only if it appears in your local catalog.

5. John Cena versus Daniel Bryan: the established star and the underdog
If you prefer an underdog challenge to a celebrity-versus-star spectacle, try Cena versus Bryan. WWE’s SummerSlam 2013 retrospective contrasts Cena’s established position with Bryan’s unconventional rise, recalling Bryan’s NXT background, his involvement in the Nexus debut, and their WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2013.
The essential starting point is that title match. WWE’s descriptions of the performers are promotional framing; the useful story hook is the contrast between their career paths and the contest for the championship. Search for SummerSlam 2013 and add related Raw or SmackDown episodes only if your local catalog lists them.

How to find the arcs on Netflix
Netflix availability depends on location and can change. In a January 6, 2026 announcement, WWE said Netflix became the U.S. home for its Premium Live Event library from before September 2025, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble, along with documentaries and original programming. The announcement also said past Monday Night Raw episodes became part of the library. It establishes U.S. availability as described in that announcement, not a guarantee that every country has the same catalog or that every weekly segment is present. Read WWE’s announcement.
- Search your local Netflix catalog for the rivalry, performer names, and the event names listed above. Confirm that the relevant matches or episodes are available where you live.
- Use a documentary or retrospective as context if one appears in your catalog, then watch the event matches in chronological order.
- For weekly-TV-heavy stories, check episode availability separately. The Austin–McMahon arc and the Cena–Bryan buildup involve more than a short match sequence; a complete episode-by-episode Netflix watch order is not established here.
WWE’s announcement about the series WWE Rivals describes it as using archival footage and interviews to discuss historic feuds. That explains why a rivalry documentary can provide context, but does not establish that the series is currently on Netflix. WWE’s announcement about WWE Rivals.
