If you’re looking for trippy, mind-bending Netflix series to watch after you finish Black Mirror, start by deciding what kind of strange you want next. These five picks range from a tightly woven time puzzle to a comic loop and surreal psychological experiments. They aren’t all Black Mirror clones: each bends reality in a different way.
The order below is a guide, not a ranking. Netflix catalogs vary by country and can change, so check your local catalog before you settle in.
1. Dark: Start here for a sprawling puzzle
Best for: connecting clues across time and space
If what you liked about Black Mirror was the pleasure of piecing together a speculative mystery, Dark is the closest match on this list in structure: it tells one continuing story rather than a series of separate tales. Its mystery expands beyond familiar boundaries of time and space. Netflix describes the third and final season as a “mind-bending conclusion”; that’s a useful signal of the show’s scale, not a reason to expect the same kind of standalone technology parable as Black Mirror. 2. The OA: Choose an earnest mystery that crosses dimensions
Best for: metaphysical questions and a reality-shifting story
The OA leans into mystery and the uncanny rather than the technology-focused speculation often associated with Black Mirror. Pick it if you’re open to an earnest, metaphysical story whose appeal comes from following its questions and shifts in reality, rather than from a self-contained premise in each episode.

3. 1899: Board an enclosed voyage with a central riddle
Best for: tense mystery and a shipboard setting
1899 places its mystery aboard an immigrant ship bound for New York, where strange events point toward a larger riddle. It was announced as the next project from Dark creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, and Netflix described it as a genre-bending mystery thriller. That shared creative lineage makes it a natural option for Dark fans, but it doesn’t mean the two shows tell the same kind of story. About Netflix: 1899 announcement
Try it if you want a tense, enclosed setting and a mystery that keeps changing how you read what’s happening. Its shipboard premise is a sharper contrast with Black Mirror’s anthology format than a direct imitation.

4. Russian Doll: Take a comic route into the time loop
Best for: a strange premise with a character-led, comic tone
In Russian Doll, Nadia dies and finds herself back at the same bathroom mirror in the same outfit. Netflix Tudum’s explainer describes that recurring return as the engine of the show. Tudum also reports that Natasha Lyonne and the writers used an app called Universe Splitter, which maps the consequences of small choices using quantum theory, to spark ideas for fun. That’s a behind-the-scenes anecdote about their brainstorming—not a scientific explanation of the show’s plot.

5. Maniac: Finish with surreal psychological genre play
Best for: shifting rules, unusual set pieces, and an experimental feel
Maniac is the most overtly experimental choice here. Director and co-creator Cary Fukunaga discussed changing rules and set pieces in a 2018 TIME interview, while explaining that the creators did not want the show to become a grab bag of Hollywood genres. Choose it for psychological strangeness and changes in genre form, rather than for a familiar anthology structure or a puzzle with a single obvious path through it.
