1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAndor makes a persuasive case for being one of the decade’s best television dramas through its earned character transformation, intimate view of political conflict, expansive ensemble, distinct place in the Star Wars universe, and story built toward a known destination. That is a critical argument, not a measured consensus ranking: RogerEbert.com television critic Brian Tallerico called season two “one of the best of the current decade.”
1. Cassian’s transformation is the story, not a shortcut
The series has a clear character engine: a cynical outsider gradually becomes a committed figure in the Rebel Alliance. Lucasfilm’s description frames that transformation as central to the show, while creator Tony Gilroy described season one as Cassian’s “education.” The drama comes from watching a man who can no longer pretend the Empire’s actions have nothing to do with him decide what he is willing to do.
That gives the political story a personal measure. Rebellion is not simply an identity Cassian adopts; it is a difficult change in how he understands responsibility and his place in events. His movement toward Rogue One therefore feels like a developed arc rather than a premise imposed on him from the start.
2. Political upheaval is made intimate
Andor is interested in how large systems press on ordinary lives: households, work, communities, and relationships. Gilroy described his aim as bringing “the smallest domestic dramas and the smallest interpersonal relationships” into the midst of “epic tectonic revolutionary historical moments.” That combination is a method, not just a change of tone. The political stakes become legible through what people risk, conceal, and decide in their immediate worlds.

This focus also makes resistance feel consequential before it becomes grand spectacle. Power is experienced in daily life, and opposition grows through personal choices as well as organized action. The scale can widen without losing sight of the people who have to live with its consequences.
3. The ensemble shows competing ways of living under the Empire
Cassian anchors the story, but its reach comes from the people around him: Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, Luthen Rael, Maarva Andor, Bix Caleen, Dedra Meero, and Syril Karn. Disney’s account of season two describes these characters as intertwined as the Empire rises. They occupy different positions and pursue different motives; they are not interchangeable voices for a single political outlook.

That breadth lets the series dramatize more than one side of political commitment. It can follow people who organize, compromise, enforce, resist, or struggle to decide what they owe others. The resulting conflict feels institutional as well as personal: the Empire is not only a distant antagonist, but a force shaping choices across a network of lives.
4. It broadens what a Star Wars story can be
Andor uses a more grounded and messy mode than the familiar franchise emphasis on Jedi and lightsabers. In a 2022 StarWars.com interview, Gilroy said he focused on storytelling, logic, plot, and characters, and argued that stories in the galaxy need not all involve Jedi and lightsabers. That choice gives the series room to center political pressure, institutions, and people without special powers.

This is a difference in emphasis, not an absence of action or spectacle. The point is that those elements serve a drama whose tension also comes from character, strategy, and the workings of power. For viewers, that makes Andor a distinctive entry in Star Wars and a drama that can be approached through its human and political conflicts.
5. A known endpoint gives the story direction
Andor was planned as two seasons and 24 episodes covering the five years before Rogue One, according to Lucasfilm’s 2022 launch interview. Disney confirmed in 2025 that season two is the final season: 12 episodes released in four three-episode chapters, covering four years and completing Cassian’s movement toward the film. The defined destination gives the series a framework for shaping change across a finite span.

Gilroy said knowing the endpoint and framework made it possible to “swing within that.” The value of that design is narrative direction: the story can build toward a known place without needing to pretend that its scope is unlimited. Whether every viewer finds the resolution satisfying is a matter of taste, but the intended destination gives the arc a clear horizon.

The strongest decade-level claim here remains a critic’s judgment, not a statistical verdict. Reviewing season two on April 21, 2025, Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com wrote: “This 12-episode arc, which really unfolds more like four interconnected feature films, is the best season of television so far this year, and one of the best of the current decade.” That assessment specifically concerns season two and should not be mistaken for an industry-wide ranking of every show released this decade.

The show also received formal recognition. The Television Academy’s record lists a 2023 Outstanding Drama Series nomination for Andor and 2025 wins that include writing for Dan Gilroy and craft categories. In an April 2025 interview with the Associated Press, Tony Gilroy said, “We took no creative notes on this show,” and described the latitude as astonishing. Those comments offer context for the creative environment, not proof that freedom alone produced the show’s quality.
Taken together, the case for Andor rests on how its parts reinforce one another: character change gives political conflict a human center; the ensemble reveals different positions within that conflict; and a planned destination gives the story shape. That is why it merits consideration among the decade’s strongest dramas, even without a definitive ranking to prove it.
