5 Jellyfin Clients That Make Your Library Feel More Like a Premium App

The best Jellyfin client depends on your device: compare five polished options by platform, features, playback, setup, and cost.

The right Jellyfin client can make browsing your library feel polished and effortless, but no single app is best on every device. Moonfin is the strongest place to start for a modern, multi-platform experience; Streamyfin stands out for mobile-friendly features; and Apple users can compare Infuse with the official Swiftfin app. For a configurable home theater, Kodi is a powerful enthusiast option. These are clients for connecting to a Jellyfin server—not replacements for the server itself—and a slick interface does not guarantee that every video will play without transcoding.

At a glance: which Jellyfin client should you try?

Client Best for Platform fit Jellyfin relationship Cost signal Main trade-off
Moonfin A modern experience across a household’s different devices Client projects cover mobile, desktop, streaming devices, and some smart TVs; check the specific build and installation route Third-party No paid requirement is established here; confirm the current build’s terms Platform maturity and installation methods vary
Streamyfin Modern mobile and TV features, including Seerr/Jellyseerr workflows iOS, Android, and TV targets; availability and feature maturity vary Third-party Public app availability is distinct from optional beta access Some features are experimental; music is not currently supported
Infuse A polished Apple-device playback and browsing experience Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac Third-party, proprietary Official page listed a $99.99 lifetime Pro option in the captured August 2026 pricing signal; check current plans Proprietary, Apple-focused, and some features require Pro
Swiftfin An official, open-source Apple client iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV Official Jellyfin project No paid client subscription is indicated by the cited project or listing Feature completeness and polish can differ by Apple platform
Kodi with a Jellyfin add-on Home-theater customization and playback control Kodi-compatible devices JellyCon is listed in Jellyfin’s client directory; Kodi itself is a separate media center No paid client requirement is established here More setup and maintenance than a simple app

Jellyfin’s client directory also lists official clients for platforms including desktop, Android, iOS, Android TV/Fire TV, Roku, webOS, and Xbox. An alternative is worth switching to only if it improves the experience on the device you actually use.

What makes a Jellyfin client feel premium?

Here, “premium” means a well-organized home screen, attractive artwork and metadata, responsive navigation, platform-appropriate controls, and a playback experience that works with your files. It does not mean that a client is paid, official, or guaranteed to play every format.

  • Interface: Look for clear metadata, useful home-screen rows, fast search, and a layout that suits a TV remote or touchscreen.
  • Discovery: Continue Watching, Next Up, collections, trailers, and media-request integrations can reduce the effort of finding something to watch.
  • Playback: Check direct play, seeking, subtitles, HDR, and audio behavior separately from visual design.
  • Jellyfin integration: Consider whether you need multiple users, downloads, Live TV, music, watch-state syncing, or a Seerr/Jellyseerr connection.
  • Practical fit: App-store availability, sideloading, optional plugins, price, and the project’s relationship to Jellyfin all affect the day-to-day experience.

1. Moonfin: best starting point for a modern, unified experience

Moonfin is a third-party family of clients built around a more curated interface and features such as enhanced discovery, trailers, grouped metadata, and Seerr/Jellyseerr integration. Its projects span several device categories, including mobile and desktop, Android TV/Fire TV, Roku, Tizen, and webOS. The mobile and desktop project describes access to multiple Jellyfin or Emby servers, while the smart-TV project covers Tizen and webOS.

This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
  • Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
  • The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
  • Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
  • Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.

Why it can feel more polished

Moonfin’s appeal is the combination of a more deliberate home-screen presentation and discovery tools, rather than a single playback feature. A household using several device types may also value the broader client family and a companion plugin that can synchronize settings and extend the experience to Jellyfin Web and the official mobile app.

What to check before installing

Moonfin is independent of Jellyfin, and “available on” does not mean that every client has the same maturity, features, or installation process. Some smart-TV builds may require sideloading rather than a normal store installation, and updates may not be automatic. Use the project’s own repository or release channel, and check the exact build for your device before making it the household default.

Best fit: You want a contemporary interface across more than one kind of device and are comfortable checking platform-specific availability.

2. Streamyfin: best for modern mobile and TV features

Streamyfin is a third-party Jellyfin client for iOS, Android, and TV platforms. Its feature list includes skip-intro and skip-credit controls, trickplay previews, session viewing, settings management, downloads, and Seerr/Jellyseerr integration. It uses an MPV-based playback layer.

Where it stands out

Skip controls, preview images while seeking, and a modern interface help bring the browsing and viewing experience closer to what streaming-app users expect. Seerr or Jellyseerr integration can put a media-request workflow closer to the catalog. The project’s release information says it became publicly available on the tvOS App Store and describes TV-interface and navigation improvements; check the current store listing for your region and device.

Important limits

The project says music libraries are not currently supported. It also describes Chromecast support as under development, particularly around subtitles, and labels some download behavior experimental. Downloads may involve FFmpeg converting an HLS stream into a local video file in real time, rather than simply copying the original file. That can add server processing and waiting time. Some beta access may involve Patreon membership and Discord; that is separate from public app availability.

Best fit: You want modern mobile or TV navigation, skip controls, and request-service integration, and your library is primarily video.

3. Infuse: best polished playback option for Apple users

Infuse is a proprietary Apple-platform player that can connect to Jellyfin as well as other media sources. Its official page highlights format support, HDR formats including Dolby Vision, Dolby and DTS audio, AirPlay, Google Cast, subtitles, and Trakt synchronization. It is a strong candidate for Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users who value a refined interface and broad playback features.

  • 【x86 Platform — Broad Compatibility, Real Freedom】 Powered by an Intel quad-core x86 processor, it runs a wide range of operating systems and software with native compatibility. • 【Complete 2-Bay NAS Kit — Ready to Build】 Includes power supply, 16GB RAM, metal drive cage for 2 HDD/SSD, and dual SATA cables — everything you need to start building your own NAS right out of the box.

What the paid tier changes

The official Infuse page listed a $99.99 lifetime option for Infuse Pro in the captured August 2026 pricing information. This is a price signal, not a guarantee of the current offer: check the page for present monthly, annual, and lifetime options and which features require Pro. Jellyfin itself does not become a subscription service when you connect it to Infuse; the potential cost is for Infuse Pro.

Trade-offs

Infuse is not open source or a Jellyfin-owned project, and it is not a universal household choice outside Apple platforms. A polished player may also expose fewer Jellyfin-specific workflows than a dedicated client. If you depend on downloads, Live TV, server-side transcoding, or exact watch-state behavior, verify those functions in the current version before committing.

Best fit: You mainly watch on Apple devices and are willing to pay for Infuse Pro if its current features justify the cost.

4. Swiftfin: best official, open-source Apple alternative

Swiftfin is Jellyfin’s Apple-focused client, written in Swift for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Its project describes VLC-based playback capabilities intended to maximize direct play. For readers who prefer an official, open-source project to a proprietary player, it is the natural Apple client to compare with Infuse.

ZimaBoard 2 Home Server, Intel N150, Build Your First Real Server

ZimaBoard 2 can serve as a NAS, router, Docker host, firewall, media server, or homelab node—delivering a flexible, open alternative to ARM SBCs, Mini PCs, and entry-level NAS systems.

What to expect

Swiftfin’s native Apple focus is appealing, but it does not guarantee feature parity with Infuse or identical completeness on iOS/iPadOS and tvOS. Newer builds may be available through TestFlight before App Store publication, which can suit a technically confident user more than a household seeking a stable, hands-off app.

The US App Store listing showed a 3.8/5 rating from roughly 260 ratings in the captured listing; ratings change over time and are not controlled playback tests. Treat that as a reason to try the app with your own library, not as a definitive quality score.

Best fit: You want an official Jellyfin Apple client, value open source, and are willing to check whether its current feature set meets your needs.

5. Kodi with Jellyfin: best for home-theater enthusiasts

Kodi can be shaped into a highly configurable, remote-friendly media center. Jellyfin’s client directory lists JellyCon, an open-source add-on for browsing and playing Jellyfin media inside Kodi. Kodi can suit users who care about skin customization, local playback, audio/video passthrough, and detailed control over a TV-based setup.

Choose the integration deliberately

JellyCon and the fuller Jellyfin-for-Kodi integration are not interchangeable: they can differ in workflow and behavior. Decide whether you want to browse and play through an add-on or use a deeper Kodi library integration, then follow the setup instructions for that specific project.

Plan for configuration

Kodi is not necessarily a premium-looking app out of the box. The result depends on the skin, add-on, metadata, playback settings, and device. You may need to tune refresh-rate switching, audio passthrough, subtitles, or library synchronization, and keep the setup maintained as components change.

Best fit: You have a TV-focused home theater and prefer control and customization over the simplest install-and-watch experience.

Choose by device and household need

Your situation First option to try Reason
Several device types, one modern design direction Moonfin Its client family spans multiple device categories, though builds differ
Apple TV and an emphasis on polished playback Infuse Apple-focused player with a paid Pro tier and broad advertised playback features
Official, open-source Apple app Swiftfin Jellyfin project for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV
Mobile viewing, downloads, and Seerr/Jellyseerr Streamyfin Those functions are prominent in its feature set; check experimental status
Android TV/Fire TV or another TV setup where customization matters Moonfin or Kodi Choose Moonfin for a client-style interface; Kodi for deeper configuration
Smart TV without an extra streaming box Moonfin or the official platform client Confirm whether the exact Tizen or webOS build is store-based or requires sideloading
Music-heavy library Official Jellyfin client or a dedicated music client Streamyfin says it does not currently support music
Nontechnical household Infuse, Moonfin, or a stable official client Kodi is more suitable when someone can configure and maintain it

Before switching: confirm playback, not just the home screen

A client’s interface and its ability to play a particular file are separate questions. Direct play sends compatible media to the device as-is. Remuxing changes the container without re-encoding the video. Transcoding converts media into a format the client can handle, using server resources and potentially reducing quality. Subtitles, audio tracks, or a remote connection can change which path is used.

Before replacing a working client, try one representative file that includes the codecs, HDR format, audio track, subtitles, and container you use most. Check Jellyfin’s playback information to see whether the file is direct-playing, remuxing, or transcoding. For remote viewing, also test your actual connection: upload bandwidth, server capacity, reverse-proxy and TLS configuration, and cellular limits can matter more than interface polish.

Common compatibility checks

  • Dolby Vision profiles, HDR10+, and high-bitrate 4K files
  • Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD, or TrueHD audio and any receiver passthrough requirements
  • ASS/SSA styling, PGS subtitles, embedded fonts, and other subtitle formats
  • Seeking previews, resume position, and watch-state synchronization
  • Whether a subtitle or audio choice forces transcoding on your server

Server and setup checklist

Most client problems are easier to diagnose after separating server access from app behavior. For Streamyfin, the project lists a running Jellyfin server, a valid user account, remote access for off-home use, and current server software among its prerequisites.

  1. Confirm access: Sign in with a valid Jellyfin user on your home network before testing remote playback.
  2. Check the platform build: Confirm the app is available for your exact device and region. For a sideloaded smart-TV build, use the official project source and account for manual updates.
  3. Test local playback: Start with a known compatible file, then try a representative difficult file with your usual subtitles and audio.
  4. Test remote playback: Verify external access, TLS/reverse-proxy setup, available upload bandwidth, and server load.
  5. Test integrations separately: Seerr/Jellyseerr features require a configured service, and some client-specific behavior may also depend on a plugin.
  6. Keep a fallback: Retain the official app or another working client until the new choice handles your normal viewing and watch-state needs.
