Those are different alleged roles, and the charges are not proof of guilt. Later reporting documented prison sentences for two men, while two others remained charged with murder and had pleaded not guilty.
Who was arrested in connection with Johnny Wactor’s death?
The Los Angeles Police Department announced the arrests on August 15, 2024. It identified Robert Barceleau, Leonel Gutierrez, Sergio Estrada and Frank Olano. Police said Barceleau, Gutierrez and Estrada were booked on murder warrants, while Olano was booked on an accessory warrant. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against all four on August 19. The arrests and charging announcement do not mean all four were charged with murder or that each was accused of being present at the shooting.
LAPD’s August 15 announcement and the District Attorney’s charging announcement describe the initial arrests and prosecution. A later Associated Press report supplies the subsequent plea and sentencing information below.

These are reported procedural events, not equivalent findings: a warrant or charge is an accusation, a guilty plea resolves the pleaded offenses, and a judge’s decision that a case may proceed to trial is not a verdict. AP reported the sentences for Gutierrez and Olano but did not establish a verdict or later disposition for Barceleau or Estrada. The cited reporting does not establish the complete status of those cases through October 7, 2026; check current court records for a newer update.

What did authorities say happened?
According to the District Attorney’s account, Wactor, 37, was leaving work in downtown Los Angeles at about 3:25 a.m. on May 25, 2024, when he encountered three men allegedly trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car. Prosecutors allege that Barceleau shot Wactor once in the chest. Wactor was taken to a hospital, where he died. This is the prosecution’s account, not a court finding about defendants whose cases remained pending in the later AP report.
ABC News reported that police described the suspects’ getaway vehicle as a stolen black Infiniti Q50 sedan. That description refers to the alleged escape vehicle, not to Wactor’s car.

In the August 19, 2024 charging announcement, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said: “Johnny Wactor’s life was senselessly taken while he was simply walking to his parked car in downtown Los Angeles. We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Wactor and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.” The statement expressed the prosecutor’s position when charges were announced; it was not a judicial finding.
What happened to the four defendants afterward?
Gutierrez pleaded guilty and was sentenced
The District Attorney’s Office announced on September 12, 2024, that Gutierrez had pleaded guilty the day before to attempted robbery and grand theft, with a firearm allegation. AP later reported he received four years in state prison. AP said he was not charged with killing Wactor.

Olano received a sentence for lesser crimes
AP later reported that Olano received five years and eight months for accessory and stolen-property offenses. It also reported that he was not at the scene of the killing and was not charged with killing Wactor. An accessory conviction must not be described as a murder conviction.
Barceleau and Estrada faced murder charges
AP reported that Barceleau and Estrada pleaded not guilty to murder and that a judge found the cases sufficient to go to trial. That procedural ruling allowed the cases to proceed; it did not decide guilt. The sources cited here do not establish a verdict or a later disposition for either man.

Who was Johnny Wactor?
Wactor played Brando Corbin on the television soap opera General Hospital from 2020 to 2022. He was 37 when he died. The Associated Press reported his death in a May 26, 2024, article updated May 28.
