In Rotten Tomatoes’ guide updated June 10, 2025, Batman Forever ranks 34th of 37 Batman films, with a 41% Tomatometer score. The list includes animated and live-action movies, so it is a critic-score snapshot across several very different styles—not a ranking of live-action films alone or a universal fan verdict.
Where Batman Forever ranks
Rotten Tomatoes places Batman Forever at No. 34, above only three entries in its 37-film guide. Its 41% Tomatometer score reflects the share of included critic reviews counted as positive; it is not an audience score or a rating out of 100. The guide’s consensus calls the movie “Loud, excessively busy, and often boring,” while noting Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones as “mild relief.” These are Rotten Tomatoes consensus excerpts, not quotes from an individual critic. How to read the ranking
It mixes animation and live action
The list is not limited to theatrical live-action Batman movies. The LEGO Batman Movie ranks second, and animated Batman: Mask of the Phantasm ranks sixth in the guide. Comparing those films with live-action entries can be useful, but their formats and aims differ.
It spans distinct eras and styles
The guide’s selection traces shifts in Batman’s screen identity: 1960s camp, Tim Burton’s art-deco-inflected blockbuster style in the 1980s, sharply contrasting 1990s films, and the Nolan trilogy’s more grounded approach in the 2000s. A Tomatometer position compresses these differences into a single ordering; it does not tell you which tone or version you are most likely to enjoy.
Rank #2
A score is not a complete recommendation
The Tomatometer is useful for seeing how a film’s critic reviews compare within this guide, but the percentage does not explain why reviewers responded as they did. For a personal watch choice, tone, animation versus live action, and the Batman era you prefer may matter more than a few places in the ranking.

At No. 34, Batman Forever sits near the bottom of this particular critic-score list, but it is not last: Batman & Robin ranks No. 37 with 11% in the same June 10, 2025 guide. The gap between the films is specific to Rotten Tomatoes’ ordering and should not be treated as a definitive ranking of fan favorites or every Batman adaptation.
