36 Days uses a killing to frame an eight-episode story about the residents of a Goa housing estate, but its real emphasis is their private crises and secrets. That makes it a better fit for viewers drawn to a slow-burn ensemble drama than for anyone expecting a tightly plotted, clue-led whodunit.
What is 36 Days about?
SonyLIV lists 36 Days as a 2024 crime and mystery series with eight episodes. Its official synopsis centers on an enigmatic woman arriving at a seemingly idyllic housing estate in Goa, where residents’ secrets and hidden identities begin to unravel. SonyLIV’s series listing provides that premise; the more specific account of the residents’ troubles comes from critic Deepa Gahlot’s review.

Gahlot identifies Neha Sharma’s character, Farah, as the newcomer to Casa de Magnolia. Around her, the review describes villa residents facing blackmail, strained marriages, a shady side business and family grief. Those conflicts broaden the show beyond the question of who died and why.
How the murder frames the story
The review says the series opens with a corpse, then goes back 36 days to follow the events leading up to the killing. There is no detective whose investigation supplies the plot’s main spine. As Gahlot puts it, “No detective comes in to solve the murder.” Instead, the crime provides a frame for a story that spends much of its time with the people connected to it.

That structure supports the title’s central idea: murder is not necessarily the point. The official synopsis promises secrets exposed by Farah’s arrival; Gahlot’s interpretation is that the residents’ dysfunction, pretence and neglected mental-health issues carry much of the drama. The distinction matters: the first is the platform’s premise, while the second is the reviewer’s reading of what the series prioritizes.
What works—and what may not
The ensemble and its private lives
Gahlot describes a sprawling set of subplots, not all of which connect directly to the murder. For viewers interested in how secrets and domestic pressures overlap across a community, that breadth can be the appeal. The show’s attention to the residents also lets it explore pretence and mental-health concerns rather than treating every character simply as a suspect or clue.

The pace and the mystery
“The eight-part series moves at a leisurely pace,” Gahlot writes. Because the narrative ranges across multiple lives instead of following an investigator or a steady chain of clues, the mystery may feel diffuse to viewers who want a brisk, puzzle-driven plot. That is a trade-off inferred from the review’s description, not a claim about how audiences have responded.
The Goa setting
Gahlot notes aerial views of villas amid greenery and observes that the location and homes may interest viewers. It is a detail of the review’s impression, rather than a promise that the show will function as a showcase of Goa or interior design.

- Consider it if you like character-heavy mysteries, interlocking domestic secrets and a slower build around an ensemble.
- Temper expectations if you want the murder investigation, clue trail and solution to dominate every episode; the review describes a broader, more leisurely story.
