Based on a September 30, 2026 snapshot, Sami Zayn is the best WWE wrestler right now, narrowly ahead of World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer. This is an editorial ranking, not an official WWE list. It weighs championship position, match ability, storyline importance, audience connection and the depth of each wrestler’s current role.
“Right now” changes quickly. WWE titleholders, injuries, brands and television programs should be rechecked before relying on this list.
How this ranking works
WWE does not publish an official ranking of its best wrestlers. The order below balances five editorial factors:
- Championship standing and credible title contention
- Match quality and consistency
- Storyline prominence
- Connection with the live and television audience
- How substantial the wrestler’s current role is
The pool is WWE’s active Raw and SmackDown talent, with selected NXT wrestlers included near the bottom so developing performers can be compared transparently. That makes the final positions less certain than the leading titleholders; NXT performers are being judged against a different level of weekly opposition and exposure.

What the current title picture says
At the September 30 snapshot, WWE’s official champion listings name Sami Zayn as Undisputed WWE Champion, Roman Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, Stephanie Vaquer as Women’s World Champion, Chelsea Green as WWE Women’s Champion, Chad Gable as Intercontinental Champion, Trick Williams as United States Champion, Raquel Rodriguez as Women’s Intercontinental Champion and Jacy Jayne as Women’s United States Champion.
Those championships are the strongest concrete evidence of present competitive position, but a belt is not an automatic verdict on overall ability. A champion can rank below a non-champion when match quality, storyline depth and broader influence point that way.
Rank #2
- Roll down to the ring with the Lucha Low Rider vehicle.
- Includes a WWE Main Event Rey Mysterio action figure with advanced articulation.
- Recreate iconic entrances with the Lucha Low Rider hydraulics action.
- Rey Mysterio can enter the match with the vehicle's launching action.
- Ride into matches with real rolling wheels.
Why the order can change within days
- Weekly Raw, SmackDown and NXT results can elevate a challenger or end a program immediately.
- Injuries, returns and brand moves can change a wrestler’s role without changing their underlying ability.
- Money in the Bank qualifiers and other high-profile matches create useful current signals, but one result does not establish a full-season ranking.
- NXT and main-roster performers do not receive identical exposure, so cross-brand comparisons necessarily involve judgment.
For example, WWE’s September 25 SmackDown listing reports CM Punk qualifying for Money in the Bank by defeating Gunther and Finn Bálor. That result supports Punk’s current placement, but it is only one recent programming signal rather than a statistical rating.
How to use this list
- Check the latest WWE Superstar directory for titleholders and roster status.
- Review the most recent Raw, SmackDown and, where relevant, NXT results.
- Adjust for injuries, returns, suspensions and announced brand changes.
- Decide whether your own definition of “best” prioritizes ring work, drawing power, championships or long-term potential.
This ranking is timestamped to September 30, 2026. Because the phrase “right now” is unusually time-sensitive in wrestling, it should be treated as a current editorial snapshot rather than a permanent hierarchy.
