Short trip? You usually do not need to change your Spotify country. Moved? Update your account country through Spotify’s account page; Premium subscribers may also need a payment method issued in the new country. Not in that country? Spotify’s documented profile process only shows the destination country when you are physically there, so a VPN alone is not an official or dependable workaround.

1. Keep your account country during a short trip
For a temporary trip, leave your country setting alone if Spotify works where you are. Spotify says short-term travel does not require changing the account country. Its support documentation gives Free accounts up to 14 days of use in another country; after that, playback may stop until you return to the registered country or update your account country.
That 14-day limit is specifically stated for Free accounts. Spotify’s travel guidance treats Premium differently, but it is not a promise that every Premium account can remain abroad indefinitely without regard to residence or plan terms. 2. Change the country on a Free account after moving
Spotify’s documented route is the account page in a web browser. The destination country appears in the dropdown only when Spotify detects that you are actually there. If you are still in your old country, waiting until arrival is the supported way to make the option available.
- Sign in to your Spotify account page in a browser.
- Select Edit profile.
- Scroll to Country or region and choose the new country.
- Select Save profile.
These are Spotify’s documented labels; wording and layout can vary by language or interface update. If the setting is hard to find in the app, use a desktop or mobile browser instead. Spotify: country or region settings
3. Update Premium after moving
For Premium, Spotify’s account guidance directs users to update the payment method for the new country. You may need a payment method issued there; options differ by location and account. Spotify says the change takes effect from the next billing date, so check the price shown for the new arrangement before submitting payment details.

- Open your Spotify account page.
- Under Your plan, select Update beside the payment method.
- Enter an available payment method issued in the new country and submit the change.
If Apple, Google Play, a mobile carrier or another partner bills your subscription, payment management may need to happen through that provider rather than Spotify’s standard payment page. Not through Spotify’s documented profile workflow: Spotify says the new country appears in the dropdown only when you are physically there. A VPN can change the apparent network location, but it does not by itself change your Spotify account country, establish residence, supply an eligible local payment method or guarantee a different catalog.
Spotify’s U.S. agreement says accounts must be in the user’s country of residence and that users may access only the service version offered there. It also addresses paying the applicable country price for a paid subscription. Using a VPN to obtain another market’s price or bypass regional restrictions is therefore not a supported account-change method. Spotify: country or region settings · Spotify U.S. End User Agreement

What changes when you update the country?
- Price and billing: The applicable plan price and taxes may differ. For Premium, the payment-country change takes effect from the next billing date.
- Payment choices: Available methods vary by country or region and are shown for the account location.
- Catalog: Availability can change because music and other content are licensed by market. A country change does not guarantee a particular song or podcast will become available.
- Library: Playlists and follows are account data, but individual items may become unavailable if licensing differs. Check important playlists after moving; if an item is available again, you may need to download it for offline listening.
- Plans and offers: Plan eligibility, trials and promotions can vary by market. Check the terms presented for your account rather than assuming an offer transfers.

Troubleshooting a missing country option or rejected payment
The country dropdown is missing
- Confirm you are physically in the destination country; Spotify says the country appears only when you are there.
- Sign in through the account page in a browser and check Edit profile.
- If you have Premium, check whether payment details also need updating.
- If Apple or Facebook was used to create or link the account, review that service’s country or region settings as well.
- Log out and back in after saving an update. If the account still appears mismatched, contact Spotify Support rather than repeatedly switching countries.
Your payment method is rejected
- The method may have been issued in the old country, or may not be available for the destination market.
- The billing address may not match the payment method.
- Your subscription may be billed by Apple, Google Play, a carrier or another partner.
- The account country may not yet match the payment country.

If you use Free, the 14-day abroad limit may have expired. Return to the registered country or, if you have moved, use the country-change process. A VPN is not a dependable substitute for updating the account.

Your account uses Apple or Facebook
Spotify says accounts created with Apple or Facebook may also require a country or region update with those services. That is separate from Spotify’s own account setting; update the relevant linked service as well as Spotify’s country and, for Premium, the applicable billing details. You are on Duo or Family
Shared plans can have additional country, address or eligibility rules. Check the current terms for your plan and the billing account before changing its country; do not assume that changing one member’s account updates the plan’s eligibility.

Will my playlists be deleted if I change country?
A country change can affect which tracks are available. Individual songs or other content may become unavailable even if playlist and follow information remains tied to your account.
Will my Spotify Premium price change immediately?
Spotify says a Premium payment-country change takes effect from the next billing date. Check the displayed price before submitting the update.
Do I need a local credit card to change Spotify country?
Not necessarily a credit card, but Spotify says you may need a payment method issued in the new country. Available methods vary by location and billing provider.
Can I change my Spotify country back later?
