If an intro disappears during the handoff between episodes, turn off Autoplay next episode, then launch each episode from the series page. If skipping happens on the first play—especially in Chrome or Edge—disable extensions, userscripts, or automation that may be clicking Netflix’s Skip Intro button.
First, identify what Netflix is doing
- A Skip Intro button is visible but you do not press it: Nothing is being automatically skipped; ignore the button.
- The intro disappears as one episode ends: Continuous playback or next-episode autoplay is the likely trigger.
- The first play starts after the intro: Check browser extensions, userscripts, remote-control software, and the saved playback position.
- The episode starts several minutes in: Netflix may be resuming an earlier position rather than skipping an intro.
Cold opens, recaps, unusually long title sequences, and episodes with no conventional intro can also make normal playback look like skipping.
Trick 1: Turn off Autoplay next episode
This is Netflix’s most useful built-in workaround when the problem occurs between episodes. Netflix documents Autoplay next episode as a profile-level preference, but does not say that it disables the Skip Intro control itself.
- Open Netflix in a web browser and go to the Account page.
- Open Profiles and choose the affected profile.
- Select Playback settings.
- Turn off Autoplay next episode, then save or confirm if Netflix prompts you.
The setting applies to the selected profile, so changing it for one household profile does not necessarily change other profiles. With autoplay disabled, Netflix should stop the automatic episode-to-episode handoff and give you a deliberate stopping point.

Trick 2: Start the next episode manually
After an episode ends, return to the show’s title page or episode list instead of relying on a prominent Next Episode button.
- Open the series page.
- Choose the next episode from the episode picker.
- Check that the timeline is at 0:00 or at the actual beginning.
- If Netflix resumes later, choose Restart from beginning, when available, or drag the progress bar to the start.
Manual selection removes the automatic transition, but it is not a permanent intro-lock. A previously watched episode can still have a saved resume position, and Netflix’s interface can vary by title, device, app version, and region.
Trick 3: Disable auto-skip extensions and scripts
Desktop-browser tools can automatically click Netflix’s Skip Intro or Skip Recap controls. Store listings for Netflix Extended, Netflix Tools, and Netflix Skip advertise automatic playback actions. These are third-party claims, and interface changes can break compatibility.

- Media playback controls - Quickly navigate media with built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse buttons.
- Seamless console compatibility - Power on your PS5 console and navigate its menus directly with the remote for ultimate convenience.
- TV settings - Adjust the volume and power settings of compatible TVs with the built-in IR transmitter. PS5 system software update may be required.
- Open your browser’s extensions or add-ons manager.
- Look for names or descriptions containing Netflix, Skip, Intro, Recap, Endless, Playback, or Streaming.
- Also inspect Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey for Netflix userscripts and check for keyboard or remote-control automation software.
- Disable suspicious tools temporarily and reload Netflix completely.
- Play an episode from the beginning. If the problem stops, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the cause.
- Remove obsolete tools or ones whose permissions are broader than you accept. Some extensions offer an internal switch for auto-clicking; turn that feature off rather than assuming Netflix caused the behavior.
Browser extensions generally affect desktop browser playback, not the Netflix app on a Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, smart TV, game console, or phone.
Do not confuse Autoplay previews with intro playback
Autoplay previews controls trailers and previews while browsing. It does not control opening sequences inside episodes. Netflix’s documented browser path is Account → Profiles → choose profile → Playback settings → Autoplay previews; the preference may require a refresh, profile switch, or sign-out and sign-in before it takes effect. See Netflix’s Autoplay Previews help page. Turning it off is therefore not the fix for skipped episode intros.
If the intro still disappears
Reset the playback position
Use Restart from beginning or move the timeline to the start. If the same later position returns, stop playback after restarting and reopen the title.

Compare another episode, profile, or device
If only one episode is affected, its saved position or title-specific intro behavior may be responsible. Testing another profile or device helps separate account history, device software, and browser automation. Preferences are profile-specific, and exact labels can change with app versions.
Refresh the session
After changing playback settings, refresh Netflix; if necessary, switch profiles or sign out and back in. On television devices, restart the Netflix app and the device, then test a manually selected episode.

What Netflix officially documents
Netflix’s current help material lists Autoplay previews and Autoplay next episode, not a setting named Auto-Skip Intros, Skip Intro, or Always play intros. Netflix describes Skip Intro as a player control designed to skip opening sequences, rather than a permanent profile preference, in its account of the feature’s origin: Netflix’s March 17, 2022 Skip Intro article. That announcement reported 136 million button presses on a typical day and 195 years saved cumulatively; those are historical Netflix-reported figures, not current measurements.
Accordingly, disabling next-episode autoplay and removing browser automation are workarounds and diagnostics—not a guaranteed way to remove every Skip Intro prompt or behavior on every title and device.
