The dates below are the theatrical or streaming dates published by T3 on 30 December 2025. Because today is 1 October 2026, the January–September dates are calendar-past, while Street Fighter, Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three remain listed later in the year. Release plans can change, and streaming availability is territory-specific.
How to use this 2026 release guide
- Theatrical-first means the film was listed for cinemas before any home release was announced.
- Direct streaming identifies a date announced for a platform rather than cinemas. The listed example is Netflix’s The Rip.
- Platform ownership is not the same as a streaming date. Amazon says its theatrical films will eventually come to Prime Video, but it does not give a Prime Video date for every title. Disney says library availability varies by region and can change.
- “Hottest” is editorial shorthand, not a measured ranking. No box-office, critic-score or audience ranking is implied.

January to March: horror, crime and major adaptations
We Bury the Dead
This Australian independent zombie horror film leads the year’s first wave with Daisy Ridley. Its appeal is the combination of a recognisable star and a smaller-scale national production rather than an established studio franchise.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
The film continues the 28 Years Later story, making it the choice for viewers following the modern revival of the infected-apocalypse series.
The Rip
Netflix’s direct-streaming entry is an action crime film starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Netflix’s 7 January 2026 slate announcement named the film, and Netflix Tudum’s 1 May guide listed the streaming date.
#1 Best Overall
- Runtime: 95 minutes
Mercy
Amazon’s science-fiction thriller stars Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. It is one of the titles illustrating Amazon MGM’s theatrical-first strategy: Amazon said it had 14 films lined up for 2026 and is working toward 15 “big, bold, cinematic, global films” annually in theaters by 2027.
Send Help
Sam Raimi directs this survival horror film. That places it among the year’s original-feeling genre bets rather than a sequel or adaptation named in the schedule.
Scream 7
Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, the central target of the Ghostface threat. The film is aimed squarely at established slasher-series audiences.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Steven Knight’s film continuation brings back Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. The planned pattern was cinema first, followed by Netflix streaming roughly two weeks later; Netflix also included it in its 2026 slate announcement.

The Bride
This stylised Frankenstein story is set in 1930s gangland Chicago, with Christian Bale playing the Creature. Its period-crime setting distinguishes it from a conventional contemporary horror remake.
Rank #2
- Runtime: 95 minutes
Project Hail Mary
Ryan Gosling stars in the screen adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel. Readers who want the story before the film can start with the book; Amazon lists the movie among its theatrical 2026 titles and says such films will eventually arrive on Prime Video.
April to June: family animation, comedy and superhero franchises
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
This animated Nintendo sequel extends the Mario film universe into the Galaxy setting. It is the clearest family-and-gaming crossover in the list.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt return. The announced supporting names include Sydney Sweeney, Lucy Liu, Lady Gaga and Kenneth Branagh, making this one of the year’s most recognisable ensemble reunions.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
Jon Favreau directs this Star Wars feature starring Pedro Pascal. Disney’s official movie information identifies it as a theatrical film, so a Disney+ date should not be assumed from the platform’s ownership of Star Wars.
Masters of the Universe
Nicholas Galitzine plays He-Man and Jared Leto plays Skeletor in the fantasy adaptation. Amazon MGM included it in the same 2026 theatrical slate as Mercy and Project Hail Mary.
Rank #3
- The story of the famous Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop.
Scary Movie 6
The Wayans-led sequel returns to the horror-parody format, making it a franchise comedy for viewers who want spoof rather than straight horror.
Toy Story 5
Returning Toy Story characters, including Woody, put this animated sequel firmly in the family-audience lane. Its strongest hook is continuity with Pixar’s established characters.
Supergirl
Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, while Jason Momoa is listed as Lobo. The film is a DC superhero release built around a new on-screen Supergirl lead and a notable supporting character.
Shrek 5
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are described as returning to the original voice roles. The film therefore targets both children discovering the series and adults who grew up with it.

Moana
This live-action Disney adaptation brings back Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Disney+ is the company’s dedicated U.S. home for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic titles, but Disney cautions that library timing differs by region and can change.
Rank #4
- Runtime: 155 minutes
The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan adapts Homer’s epic. It is the list’s most overtly classical source adaptation and one of its largest-scale theatrical propositions.

Sam Raimi writes and produces this horror sequel, connecting it to the wider Evil Dead creative lineage while keeping the film in the theatrical horror lane.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is mentioned alongside him. The combination makes this a major Marvel character crossover for superhero viewers.
Coyote vs. ACME
This part-animated, part-live-action comedy stars John Cena. The project moved forward after a rights sale to an alternative distributor, so its distribution path is less straightforward than a studio-owned franchise release.
Clayface
Mike Flanagan is cited as the writer of this DC film about Batman’s shape-shifting villain. The premise makes it a character-focused comic-book movie rather than another ensemble superhero event.

- Return to Pandora for the third chapter of Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully and his family. Reeling from one death, the Sullys set out to prevent another — aided by the Wind Traders. But on the way, they’re attacked by the Ash People, who blame Eywa for their ravaged home. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes may affect photosensitive viewers.
October and December: the remaining calendar events
Street Fighter
The video-game adaptation was promoted with a Game Awards teaser. Its audience is the global fighting-game community as much as general action-film viewers.
Avengers: Doomsday
Disney confirms an exclusive theatrical release and describes a multiverse collision premise. Because the confirmed information is theatrical, no Disney+ streaming date should be inferred.
Dune: Part Three
Denis Villeneuve’s film is described as the conclusion of his Dune trilogy. It shares the same listed December date as Avengers: Doomsday, creating the year’s most notable major-release clash.
What the platform announcements actually establish
Netflix
Netflix’s 7 January 2026 announcement names 2026 titles including Enola Holmes 3, The Rip, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Here Comes the Flood, Apex, Swapped and Narnia, while saying the list is not comprehensive. Netflix Tudum’s 1 May guide supplies dated entries such as People We Meet on Vacation and The Rip, plus seasonal and coming-soon listings.
Prime Video and Amazon MGM
Amazon reported 14 films already lined up for 2026 and said it is working toward 15 theatrical films annually by 2027. Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said, “We are working to deliver 15 big, bold, cinematic, global films annually into theaters by 2027.” Amazon also says those theatrical films will eventually be available on Prime Video; that statement does not provide a universal home-release window.
Disney+
Disney+ describes itself as the dedicated U.S. streaming home for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic titles, plus Disney+ Originals. Disney explicitly warns that availability varies by region and is subject to change, so a U.S. library expectation should not be applied automatically elsewhere.
