Its top 10 is presented in Tomatometer order, with Certified Fresh films first; the remaining titles include audience favorites. That makes this an attributed guide—not an objective or universal ranking—and its order may change as the live list is updated.
For documentary fans, start with The Short Game for junior competition or Loopers: The Caddie’s Long Walk for the golfer-caddie relationship. For broad comedy, try Caddyshack or Happy Gilmore. The 2025 sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, appears at number 13 in the guide.
How Rotten Tomatoes ranks these golf movies
This selection follows Rotten Tomatoes’ guide, published July 30, 2025. The publisher says its first 10 entries are ordered by Tomatometer, with Certified Fresh films first; the remaining entries broaden the list with audience favorites. The guide’s rankings and scores can change, so the placements below are attributed to that list rather than presented as a permanent consensus. Exact percentages are omitted.
Use the descriptions to choose by mood and format: the lineup includes feature comedies and dramas, golfer biographies, and documentaries. The list’s number 14, Round of Your Life, has an audience score shown in the guide but no Tomatometer score displayed.

The 21 best golf movies in the Rotten Tomatoes guide
1. The Phantom of the Open (2021)
Mark Rylance plays Maurice Flitcroft in this true-story comedy-drama. Flitcroft tried to enter the British Open despite never having played golf before, making this an offbeat pick for viewers who want an underdog story rather than a conventional sports triumph.
2. Caddyshack (1980)
Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and Bill Murray star in a rowdy country-club comedy. Danny Noonan works as a caddie at the club, where the story’s humor comes from its unruly mix of staff, members, and guests.
3. Pat and Mike (1952)
Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy lead this romantic sports comedy. It is an older, lighter alternative to the more recent golf comedies on the list.
4. The Short Game (2013)
This documentary follows young golfers competing at the World Championships of Junior Golf. Choose it for real players and competition rather than a fictional golf plot.
5. The Caddy (1953)
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis star in a comedy about a golfer and his caddie who move into show business. It combines golf with the pair’s performance-oriented comedy.

7. Loopers: The Caddie’s Long Walk (2019)

This biographical film follows Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros. Pick it for a golfer-centered story rather than fictional club-life antics.
9. Tin Cup (1996)

13. Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
Rotten Tomatoes places Sandler’s sequel directly after the original in this guide. Netflix describes it as a PG-13 comedy/sports movie starring Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald. The official Netflix page for Happy Gilmore 2 provides a trailer and watch information; availability depends on territory.
The sequel reunites returning cast members including Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald, with Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny) among the new co-stars, according to Netflix Tudum’s cast guide. Professional golfers also appear, including John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris. Director Kyle Newacheck told Tudum: “There’s been a wave of golf [popularity], so it feels like the movie is timely, just like it did in ’96.” That is his impression, not a measured statistic about golf participation.
Fans of the first film can look for callbacks including Happy’s golf bag, hockey-stick putter, returning characters, and references to earlier scenes and jokes. These are connections for returning viewers, not a reason newcomers must watch the original first.
