Lady Gaga and Busta Rhymes took the stage
Gaga performed “Abracadabra” and “The Dead Dance.” Busta Rhymes performed a medley with Joyner Lucas, Papoose, and GloRilla. Gaga also reflected on music’s ability to bring people together, saying, “Being an artist is an attempt to connect the souls of people all over the world,” as reported by the AP.
An Ozzy Osbourne tribute brought together rock performers
Yungblud, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Nuno Bettencourt participated in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, according to the AP.
Which artists received special honors?
- Mariah Carey: received the Video Vanguard Award.
- Busta Rhymes: received the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
- Ricky Martin: received the inaugural Latin Icon Award after performing.
The honors and performance roster are also listed in Paramount’s 2025 event announcement. Its artist sales figures are promotional background claims, not independently audited totals.
Who was on the official performer roster?
MTV’s official roster named Alex Warren, Bailey Zimmerman, Conan Gray, DJ Snake, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Jelly Roll, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, KATSEYE, Lady Gaga, Lola Young, Megan Moroney, Nuno Bettencourt, Post Malone, Sabrina Carpenter, sombr, Tate McRae, The Kid LAROI, and YUNGBLUD. It also listed LL COOL J as host and Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, and Ricky Martin as honorees and performers. Some names were designated for the pre-show or Extended Play Stage, so the roster should not be read as a list of performers in the main telecast. MTV’s roster provides those stage designations.
Where did the 2025 VMAs air?
The ceremony was broadcast in the United States on CBS, with an MTV simulcast and streaming on Paramount+, according to Paramount’s event announcement. It was the first time the VMAs aired on CBS. The announcement described on-demand access after the broadcast, but that does not establish whether the program remains available to stream now.
