There is no single authoritative ranking of the 20 most popular Canadian rappers: monthly listeners, followers and chart placements measure different things, and the available data does not establish a definitive top 20. This curated list brings together 20 Canadian rappers and hip-hop artists with cultural prominence or streaming visibility, mixing names directly supported by current chart sources with established figures whose legacy matters. Drake has the clearest evidence of leading reach in the available figures, but the list is not ranked.
How to read this list
“Popular” can mean current listeners, followers, international reach, chart success or lasting influence. Those signals do not produce an apples-to-apples ranking. Soundcharts’ Spotify follower chart is a snapshot, while Spotify’s first-half 2026 Global Impact List, as reported by Billboard Canada, counts Canadian artists’ tracks played outside Canada. The list below is therefore a guide, not a precise order of popularity.

Several chart-supported names work across genres or sit near rap rather than inside a narrow definition of it. They are included as hip-hop artists where the fit is broader, rather than presented as straightforward examples of one style. The available chart sources directly support a smaller candidate pool, not all 20 names; established artists are included for their place in Canadian hip-hop, not to imply a measured current rank.
20 Canadian rappers and hip-hop artists to know
Drake
Toronto-born Drake is the clearest choice for the country’s most internationally visible rapper in the figures available here. Billboard Canada reports that he accounted for 40 of the 50 entries on Spotify’s first-half 2026 Global Impact List of Canadian artists’ most-played songs outside Canada, including its top 12. That is a count of songs on a specific list—not a claim about his share of all Canadian streams. Soundcharts’ Canadian hip-hop Spotify follower chart also places him first.
#1 Best Overall
Tory Lanez
Born in Brampton, Ontario, Tory Lanez built a profile across rap, R&B and melodic singing. His genre range can make a strict label difficult, but it has also been central to his music’s appeal. He is among the Canadian artists named in the chart-derived candidate pool.
NAV
Toronto rapper and producer NAV is associated with melodic trap and a restrained vocal style. His work connects Canadian hip-hop to the wider North American rap mainstream, and he appears in the source-supported candidate pool.
bbno$
Vancouver-based bbno$ is known for playful, internet-era rap and buoyant, often comedic tracks. His pop-friendly approach makes him a genre-blending pick rather than a representative of a single traditional rap sound.
Shubh
Punjabi-Canadian artist Shubh is part of a rap scene that crosses languages and borders. His inclusion reflects the breadth of Canadian hip-hop visibility; he is named in the chart-derived candidate pool, though the available sources do not establish a comparable ranking against English-language rappers.

PARTYNEXTDOOR
Raised in Mississauga, Ontario, PARTYNEXTDOOR is principally known for atmospheric R&B, songwriting and melodic vocals, with hip-hop collaborations and influences. He is better described as rap-adjacent than as a conventional rapper, but is part of the broader Canadian hip-hop conversation and appears in the candidate pool.
Ali Gatie
Toronto-based Ali Gatie is primarily a singer-songwriter whose music blends R&B and pop with hip-hop influences. His presence in the candidate pool is a reminder that streaming charts can surface artists who do not fit a narrow definition of rapper.
Freddie Dredd
Ontario artist Freddie Dredd is known for dark, lo-fi production and horrorcore influences. His sound differs sharply from radio-friendly Canadian rap, illustrating the range covered by online listening audiences.
Connor Price
Toronto-born Connor Price is a rapper and actor whose short-form, collaborative releases have found an international audience. He appears in the source-supported candidate pool, though the cited material does not provide a comparable artist-by-artist popularity figure.

Night Lovell
Ottawa rapper Night Lovell is associated with brooding, bass-heavy production and a deep vocal delivery. He represents a darker, underground-leaning lane of Canadian hip-hop.
Powfu
Vancouver artist Powfu pairs lo-fi hip-hop with introspective songwriting and melodic vocals. His music is a genre blend rather than a conventional rap format, and he is another candidate named by the available chart sources.
Shad
Shad is a Kenyan-born, London, Ontario-raised rapper known for thoughtful lyrics, wordplay and socially engaged writing. His work offers a more lyric-forward counterpoint to the melodic and trap-influenced styles prominent in contemporary streaming charts.
Kardinal Offishall
Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall helped bring Canadian hip-hop to a wider audience through energetic performances and dancehall-inflected rap. His career is important context for the scene’s development beyond the current streaming moment.

K’naan
Somali-Canadian rapper and poet K’naan is known for socially conscious storytelling and music shaped by his life in Somalia and Canada. His international recognition reaches beyond rap audiences, making him a distinctive part of the country’s hip-hop history.
Maestro Fresh Wes
Toronto artist Maestro Fresh Wes is a foundational figure in Canadian hip-hop. His career dates back to an earlier era of the genre, so his importance is better understood through influence and legacy than a current listener snapshot.
Choclair
Scarborough-born Choclair became a prominent Canadian rapper in the late 1990s, known for relaxed delivery and polished production. His place on a broad list rests on his contribution to the country’s rap history, not a current cross-platform ranking.
Classified
Nova Scotia rapper and producer Classified built a following with direct, conversational writing and a distinctly East Coast Canadian perspective. He is among the artists who helped make Canadian rap visible outside its largest urban centres.

k-os
Toronto artist k-os fuses rap with rock, soul and pop, often shifting between rapping and singing. His catalog represents an adventurous, cross-genre branch of Canadian hip-hop rather than a single commercially defined rap sound.
Drake
Drake’s influence is already reflected in the current reach figures above; this list includes him once. To complete a useful picture of Canadian rap’s stylistic range, consider instead Cadence Weapon: the Edmonton-born rapper and producer is known for inventive, electronic-leaning production and sharply observed lyrics.
Haviah Mighty
Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty brings incisive writing and a forceful delivery to contemporary Canadian hip-hop. Her work adds an important perspective to a field often discussed through male artists and mainstream streaming visibility.
Pressa
Toronto rapper Pressa is associated with melodic street rap and a distinctive vocal style. His music reflects one of the city’s contemporary rap currents, though the available sources do not supply an individual ranking comparable across this list.

Spotify’s June 4, 2025 report says Canadian artists earned nearly C$460 million in Spotify royalties in 2024, up 5% year over year, and that 92% of those royalties came from listeners outside Canada. The same platform report says Canadian artists’ recorded-music revenue grew from C$397 million in 2014 to C$909 million in 2024, with audio streaming representing nearly 79% of 2024 recorded-music revenue. These are Spotify’s platform-reported figures for Canadian artists overall, not rapper-only totals.
Popularity is also concentrated. A Canadian Heritage study conducted by Wall Communications Inc. found that more than 60% of streams among the 50 most-streamed songs featuring Canadian performers in Canada in 2020 went to Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes—about 700 million of approximately 1.15 billion streams. That is useful historical context, but it covers songs featuring Canadians, not a current ranking of Canadian rappers; only Drake among those four is principally identified here as a rapper.
For anyone asking who the “best” Canadian rappers are, streaming reach is only one answer. A follower count or a list of songs played abroad can signal visibility, but it does not measure lyrical craft, influence, regional importance or personal taste. The names above span commercial reach, genre-blending and legacy, rather than claiming one definitive standard of quality.
