They married on July 29, 2016, in Malibu, California, with friends and family present. WWE reported the date and setting in its coverage of their wedding.
3. The beach mattered personally to Lana
In a WWE interview the day after the ceremony, Lana said she grew up near the Baltic Sea in the former Soviet Union and had long imagined a seaside wedding. “I always wanted to get married on the beach,” she told WWE.com.

4. Their reception had a circus-and-carnival theme
Lana said WWE’s traveling-show life inspired the reception theme. The celebration at Calamigos Ranch included a Ferris wheel and carnival elements, she recalled in the same WWE interview.

Why they had a second wedding
6. They celebrated again in Bulgaria
Weeks after the Malibu ceremony, Rusev and Lana held a traditional Bulgarian celebration on September 2, 2016. WWE reported the second ceremony in its account of the Bulgarian wedding.
7. Lana said the second ceremony honored Rusev’s traditions
Lana explained that Bulgarian tradition was important to Rusev and that two ceremonies let them meet in the middle. “Tradition is very important to Rusev, which is why we had two weddings,” she told WWE.com.

8. One designer made the wedding outfits
Lana identified Russian designer Olia Zavozina as the maker of her gown, Rusev’s suit and the bridesmaids’ dresses, according to the WWE interview.

12. Their honeymoon included the Seychelles and Dubai

Their real engagement and weddings were reported by WWE as events in their personal lives. Later television plots were different: for example, a December 2019 segment involved an on-screen divorce-paper storyline with Bobby Lashley. 14. They announced a separation in 2024
