The clearest recent evidence for that case is narrow: Nintendo says players may encounter performance-affecting issues in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, while a May 2026 Pokémon Support notice described high demand affecting the availability of certain trading-card products. The other points below are ways fans may interpret those concerns—not verified facts about every Pokémon game or product.
What “the worst franchise” means here
“Worst” is a judgment, not a measurable result established by the available official information. This list uses four standards for judging a franchise: technical performance, release polish, gameplay innovation, and the value and availability of its products. Only the performance concern about Scarlet and Violet and the specific card-product availability notice are directly documented here. The remaining reasons describe criticisms that follow from those standards; they should be read as interpretations, not independently proven shortcomings.
15 reasons critics may be losing patience with Pokémon
1. A flagship release can carry a visible performance concern
Nintendo Support says: “We are aware that players may encounter issues that affect the games’ performance.” The statement is about Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, not every release in the series. For players who expect a major first-party game to run smoothly, even a scoped issue can weigh heavily on their view of the brand.
2. Updates do not erase the first impression
Nintendo’s support page documents updates for the two games, but the existence of update documentation is not proof that every issue was fixed, nor does it establish the condition of every player’s copy. Critics may still judge a game by the experience they had at launch or before an update, even if later support changes that experience.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Performance and polish become part of the franchise’s reputation
This is an inference, not a separate documented finding: when a high-profile game draws attention for performance, players may treat that experience as evidence about the series’ standards. That reaction can be understandable without proving that all Pokémon releases share the same technical problems.
4. Expectations rise with the scale of the business
The Pokémon Company reported more than 515 million Pokémon-related game software shipments as of March 2026. That company-reported shipment figure is a measure of scale, not consumer satisfaction or quality. Still, a franchise operating at that scale invites a sharper question from fans: should a leading series deliver more consistent polish?
5. A familiar formula can feel less adventurous over time
Whether a game feels innovative is a matter of judgment, and the available figures do not compare Pokémon’s design across releases. But players who want each entry to change how the series plays may see repetition as stagnation. Others may value continuity and view familiar systems as part of the appeal.

6. Small changes may not satisfy fans seeking a reinvention
This is another expectation-based criticism rather than a verified claim about a particular game. A release can add features and still disappoint someone hoping for a more fundamental change. The disagreement is partly about what counts as innovation: refinement for one player may look like too little progress to another.

7. A large world can make technical shortcomings more noticeable
It is reasonable to argue that performance concerns stand out more in a game built around a broad, explorable setting, because players spend time moving through and observing the world. That is an analytical point, not evidence that every Pokémon game has this format or that a particular technical issue has one specific cause.
8. Content value is subjective, but expectations are not small
Some players judge value by how much there is to do; others care more about the quality of the core adventure or the time they want to spend with it. The evidence here does not establish a content shortfall in any particular release. The criticism is that a major franchise can face high expectations, making any perceived mismatch between price, content and enjoyment more contentious.

9. Repeated releases can make a long-running series feel routine
Longevity is both Pokémon’s advantage and a possible source of fatigue. Fans who want a dependable return to familiar ideas may welcome continuity; fans looking for surprise may feel that another entry has less impact. That is a difference in taste, not proof that the series has objectively run out of ideas.
10. Pokémon’s size can make every weakness more visible
The Pokémon Company reported more than 85 billion trading cards produced as of March 2026 and sales of Pokémon TCG products across more than 90 countries and regions. These company-reported figures describe reach and production, not product quality. A sensible interpretation is that a global audience makes criticism more visible; the figures alone do not show how many fans are dissatisfied.

In a notice dated May 26, 2026, Pokémon Support said high demand was affecting the availability of certain Pokémon TCG products and that it was working to print more. The notice is limited to the products and period it describes; it does not establish current stock levels or a permanent shortage. For collectors who cannot readily find a desired product, however, availability can become part of their frustration with the franchise.

12. A reprint effort does not guarantee immediate access
Pokémon Support’s statement that it was working to print more is not a promise of when particular items would reach every shop or region. That distinction matters: an effort to increase supply and a collector’s ability to buy a product are not the same thing. The notice supports a specific availability concern, not a claim that all cards are scarce.
13. One product line’s problems can color opinions of the whole brand
This is a fan-perception argument, not a fact about how all customers respond. Pokémon spans games and trading cards, among other products, so someone frustrated with one part of the business may generalize that disappointment to the name as a whole. That reaction can explain the rhetoric without making the generalization accurate.
14. Commercial scale can create a tension with fan expectations
The reported shipment and card-production totals show that Pokémon is a very large business. They do not establish that commercial priorities have harmed any particular game or product. Critics may nonetheless worry that a franchise with so many audiences and product lines has incentives that do not always match an individual fan’s wish for slower, more polished or more experimental releases.

15. The “worst” label turns several different complaints into one verdict
Technical performance, design preferences and product availability are different questions. A player may be unhappy with one game and still enjoy the card game; a collector may face a product shortage without thinking the video games are poor. Calling the whole franchise the worst compresses those separate experiences into a provocative opinion rather than a conclusion established by the available evidence.

- Documented: Nintendo Support says players may encounter issues affecting performance in Scarlet and Violet.
- Documented: Pokémon Support’s May 26, 2026 notice describes high demand affecting availability of certain TCG products and says the company was working to print more.
- Company-reported scale: As of March 2026, The Pokémon Company reported more than 515 million Pokémon-related game software shipments, more than 85 billion TCG cards produced, and TCG products sold across more than 90 countries and regions. Shipments are not the same as consumer sales, and none of these figures measures satisfaction.
- Not established: These facts do not prove that Pokémon is objectively the worst franchise, that every game has performance problems, or that card shortages affect every product or continue today.
So the strongest defensible version of the title is narrower: some fans may feel Pokémon is falling short when they judge it by polish, innovation and product access. Whether that makes the franchise worse than others—or worse than it used to be—depends on comparisons and preferences that these facts alone cannot settle.
