These 15 entries highlight public figures whose families have discussed LGBTQ identity or support in interviews and public statements. They are an editorial selection from reported examples, not a definitive or ranked list. The sources use different terms for different people, so each entry preserves the terminology reported rather than treating LGBTQ experiences as interchangeable.
Parents who have spoken about trans and nonbinary children
Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union — Zaya Wade
Dwyane Wade has described his daughter Zaya asking to use her name and she/her pronouns. He has said that he and Gabrielle Union listened, sought guidance and supported her. In 2019, Wade told ABC News, “I think as a family, we should support each other. That’s our job. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do.” The Washington Post reported on Wade’s account in 2020; ABC News covered his comments in 2019.
David and Georgia Tennant — Doris
Out reported that the Tennants’ child Doris is nonbinary and quoted David Tennant’s remarks at the 2024 British LGBT Awards. He said it was “common sense” and “human decency” for people to be able to live as they want, and questioned why that deserved special recognition. Out’s account discusses his remarks; family details beyond what has been made public are private.
Charlize Theron — her daughter
Out has reported Theron’s public support for her transgender daughter. The roundup does not name her daughter, and there is no need to add identifying details to describe the public support. Out’s roundup attributes a statement to Theron through the Daily Mail; this entry does not rely on that secondhand quotation.

Sam Greisman, Jason Gould, Hudson and Jessica Blosil
These examples also show why a parent’s public comments should not be treated as a complete account of a child’s life. In some cases, such as Bening’s remarks about Stephen Ira, the parent has explicitly left the personal story for the child to tell. The cited coverage of each family reflects what was publicly reported at the time, not an invitation to speculate about private details.

The Advocate’s article is the source for the family details.
