If you loved Raya and the Last Dragon for its myth-inspired world, spirited heroine, unusual creatures, or story about learning to trust across divisions, these 14 animated films offer different ways to find that appeal again. The list is grouped by what you might want more of—not ranked—and ranges from action-packed quests to gentler stories about belonging.
For a mythic quest and a determined heroine
Moana
Choose Moana for a sweeping voyage, myth-inflected adventure, and a young woman who takes the lead. It is the closest fit here if the journey and heroine were what drew you most to Raya.
Mulan
Mulan suits viewers who want a heroine facing danger to protect others. Its connection to Raya is chiefly the courageous lead and action; it is a more grounded legend than a dragon-filled fantasy.
Kubo and the Two Strings
For a young protagonist moving through a world shaped by folklore, try Kubo and the Two Strings. Its distinctive animation and mythic adventure make it a good pick when you want something less like a conventional action quest.
#1 Best Overall
- In a realm known as Kumandra, a re-imagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilization, a warrior named Raya is determined to find the last dragon.
For folklore, spirits, and strange worlds
Wolfwalkers
Wolfwalkers combines folklore with a young hero’s connection to creatures and a story about how people respond to what they do not understand. It is a strong choice if the unfamiliar beings and clashing perspectives in Raya mattered to you.
Song of the Sea
This quieter family fantasy draws on folklore and mythical beings. Its gentler pace makes it a better choice for a calm, atmospheric watch than for a substitute for Raya’s action.
Rank #2
- The disk has English audio and subtitles.
Spirited Away
If you want an imaginative spirit world full of strange creatures, Spirited Away follows a young protagonist as she navigates an unfamiliar realm. It shares the sense of wonder, rather than the same kind of adventure or setting.
Frozen II
For another large-scale journey with magical worldbuilding and a folkloric atmosphere, try Frozen II. It is a fit when you want fantasy and travel more than a close match to Raya’s trust-centered story.

For memorable creatures and adventure
How to Train Your Dragon
How to Train Your Dragon is the clearest pick if the bond between a human and a legendary creature was your favorite part of Raya. It also brings fantasy action and adventure.
The Sea Beast
Try The Sea Beast for a creature-filled adventure that questions whether legendary monsters are really what people believe them to be. That makes it especially appealing if you liked Raya’s mix of fantasy beings and changing perspectives.
Strange World
Strange World is a colorful exploration story with unusual creatures. Pick it for discovery and worldbuilding, rather than expecting the same character or emotional arc as Raya.
For friendship, belonging, and family
Luca
Luca is a gentler story about friendship, belonging, and beings misunderstood by the people around them. It trades high-stakes fantasy action for a more intimate mood.

Disney describes Raya and the Last Dragon as an action-adventure, animation, family, and fantasy film. Its official synopsis says, “it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.” That combination helps explain why the closest follow-up depends on what you valued: folklore, creatures, action, or the work of bringing people together.
