This selection is an editorial shortlist, chosen for memorable premises, strong performances, variety of formats, and range across the show’s eras. It sticks to Christmas material rather than treating Hanukkah sketches as Christmas sketches, and uses Peacock’s official guide for the episode context it provides.
14 SNL Christmas sketches worth revisiting
The order below is a viewing guide, not a claim that one sketch has been proven more popular or better than another. Peacock supplies descriptions and episode references for these selections; its holiday-sketch guide is the basis for the premise and season details noted here.

“NPR’s Delicious Dish: Schweddy Balls”
Jo and Terry welcome baker Pete Schweddy to discuss his holiday dessert. The restrained public-radio setting lets the increasingly obvious double entendres do the work. Peacock places the sketch in Season 24, Episode 9.
-
Steve Martin’s “Holiday Wish”
In this 1986 sketch, a public wish for peace and harmony gives way to more selfish wishes involving money, revenge, and power. The escalation is the joke: holiday goodwill becomes a thin cover for very human appetites. Peacock lists it as Season 12, Episode 6.

“Christmas Morning”
A family unwraps lavish gifts while Kristen Wiig’s mother is left with a discounted robe. The contrast turns a familiar holiday ritual into a sharply observed family grievance. Peacock uses “Christmas Morning” as the clip title.
-
“I Wish It Was Christmas Today”
Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan, and Tracy Morgan perform a deliberately chaotic Christmas song. Its simple, repeated hook and awkwardly committed performance make the musical short feel cheerfully unpolished. Peacock lists it in Season 26, Episode 9.
-
“St. Joseph’s Christmas Mass Spectacular”
A Christmas mass brings together an atheist teen, a reluctant child reader, and an adult reader whose enthusiasm threatens to take over. The scene mines both church-pageant awkwardness and the way a small role can become a personal triumph. Peacock places it in Season 40, Episode 9.

“(Do It on My) Twin Bed”
An all-girl group returns home for the holidays and confronts the uncomfortable logistics of accommodating boyfriends. The prerecorded musical number turns a cramped childhood bedroom into a comic argument for adult privacy. Peacock lists it in Season 39, Episode 10.

“Santa’s My Boyfriend”
Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, and Maya Rudolph discover they share an affection for Santa. The sketch plays the premise as a confident, coordinated performance rather than a realistic conversation. Peacock lists it in Season 32, Episode 9.
-
“The Christmas Candle”
Emma Stone, Aidy Bryant, and Kate McKinnon sing about a candle that keeps getting regifted. The increasingly familiar object becomes a wonderfully specific symbol of the holiday gift cycle. Peacock places the sketch in Season 44, Episode 8.
Rank #3
-
“Drunk Uncle on the Holidays”
Bobby Moynihan’s Weekend Update character offers incoherent holiday commentary, turning a family gathering into another opportunity for aggrieved rambling. Peacock lists the segment in Season 37, Episode 10.
-
“Santa Baby”
Ryan Gosling’s character delivers an increasingly wild Christmas wish list while Vanessa Bayer reacts. The sketch’s pleasure comes from the widening gap between the character’s audacity and the listener’s response. Peacock places it in Season 41, Episode 7.

“Santa Song”
Billie Eilish, Kate McKinnon, Ego Nwodim, and Kenan Thompson meet Santa in a strange musical encounter. Its offbeat setup adds a newer-generation ensemble performance to the list. Peacock lists it in Season 47, Episode 8.
-
“Jennifer Coolidge Is Impressed by Christmas Stuff”
Chloe Fineman’s impression of Jennifer Coolidge finds wonder in ordinary holiday objects. Rather than building toward a complicated plot, the sketch gives the comic premise room to run through the delight of the reaction. Peacock places it in Season 48, Episode 9.
-
“Christmastime for the Jews”
This musical short, included in Parade’s selection, flips the usual Christmas-song perspective by focusing on Jewish people during the holiday season. It is a holiday-season sketch with a distinct point of view, rather than a conventional celebration of Christmas. Parade’s roundup offers a premise description but not equivalent official episode metadata.
-
“Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood – Christmas”
Parade also highlights this Christmas version of Eddie Murphy’s recurring “Mr. Robinson” character. Putting a familiar neighborhood parody into a holiday setting gives the sketch a different frame from the song-driven and family-scene picks above. Parade’s roundup is the basis for its inclusion here; an episode reference is not stated there.

Why these sketches make the list
The selection balances recurring characters and one-off premises, live scenes and prerecorded songs, and older and newer cast generations. Peacock’s official descriptions make it possible to attach season and episode context to many of the choices; Parade adds two notable candidates whose official episode details are not established in its roundup. Other editorial lists make different choices and use different ordering, so this is a curated set rather than a definitive ranking. See Parade’s selection and TV Insider’s ranked list for alternate editorial perspectives.
Where to watch or collect them
NBC says SNL streams on Peacock, and Peacock’s holiday guide says episodes are available there the next day. Catalog access can vary by region and over time, so check the service where you watch. NBC’s show page also maintains a clip archive.
Collectors may encounter an older Saturday Night Live Christmas DVD: Bull Moose lists a DVD with a 2004 release date, while DVD Talk describes a Christmas compilation assembled in 1999. These references concern older physical-media releases, not a current availability guarantee or a collection of the newer sketches on this list. See the Bull Moose listing and DVD Talk review archive.
