The available text of the September 9, 2023 article titled “13 Twerkers You Need To Know About” names 12 people or groups—not 13. It does not establish a missing thirteenth entry, explain how the names were selected, or present a verifiable ranking. The names below are therefore best read as a record of whom that article included, not as a definitive list of the best-known or most influential twerkers.
The entries span recording artists, online dance personalities, and a dance group. Twerking also has cultural histories that extend beyond its modern celebrity visibility; understanding that context matters alongside the performers’ names.
Who the 2023 article names
The source text available for the September 9, 2023 article contains these 12 entries. It does not provide enough information to verify present-day biographies or to establish why each person or group was selected.
- Khristine Monroe
- Jessica Vanessa
- Jhonni Blaze
- Lanipop
- Nicki Minaj
- Rihanna
- Vanessa Hudgens
- Lexy Panterra
- Twerk Team
- Elena Fraules
- Miley Cyrus
- Anastasia Ashley
This is a mixed set rather than a like-for-like ranking: it includes recording artists, online dance personalities, and a group. The source gives no transparent selection criteria, comparable measures, or evidence for ranking one entry above another. Its language should not be treated as a reliable assessment of anyone’s character, appearance, or career.

Why the headline says 13 when the text lists 12
The discrepancy is unresolved: the available article extract contains 12 names, while its headline promises 13. It does not identify a thirteenth person, so adding one would be guesswork. The headline has been adjusted here to match the count the source supports.
Twerking has cultural context beyond celebrity performances
A reported feature published by The Pantograph Punch on October 2, 2022, profiles NZ Twerk Empire, a New Zealand dance community. Its founder, Amy Tepania-Ahdo, stresses the importance of understanding and respecting the dance’s roots: “You have to know the history and respect where it comes from.” The feature describes the class’s approach as combining African-American roots with Māori and Pasifika influences. That account offers one community’s perspective, not a complete history of twerking or a survey of all practitioners.

The feature also describes classes and choreography in a community setting. Tepania-Ahdo says, “You have to tailor it to who is standing in front of you.” That is her teaching perspective; it should not be taken as a universal description of every twerk class.
