The original “100+ Upscaled 4K wallpapers from the season so far” post was a fan-made collection of more than 100 Arcane Season 1 screenshots, enlarged with Cupscale for use as desktop wallpapers, Wallpaper Engine backgrounds, and high-resolution reference images. It remains a useful snapshot of early Arcane fandom—but “upscaled 4K” is an important qualification. These were not official native-4K stills. They were processed screenshots created before high-quality official home-media editions were widely available.
What the original Reddit collection was
The November 18, 2021 post in r/arcane gathered more than 100 still images from the first season of Arcane. The creator captured frames from the show and used Cupscale to enlarge and sharpen them because the series was not available to the creator as native 4K material.
The project was more than a small promotional-image gallery. It was organized as a practical fan resource: people wanted striking desktop backgrounds, Wallpaper Engine scenes, and downloadable high-resolution images. Discussion in the thread included requests for particular moments and characters, while comments directed readers toward a Google Drive download. That made the post useful both as a curated gallery and as a scene-by-scene archive.
Fans specifically looked for images featuring Vi, Vander, Caitlyn, Jinx, Silco, and major action or emotional moments. The interest makes sense visually. Arcane combines dramatic lighting, painterly environments, expressive character design, saturated color, and highly composed architecture—qualities that often survive well in a wallpaper crop even when the source frame is not technically perfect.

“Upscaled 4K” does not mean native 4K
Upscaling enlarges an existing image and estimates pixels that were not present in the original capture. Depending on the software and settings, it may improve apparent edge definition and make a frame suitable for a large display, but it cannot guarantee that genuinely missing texture or fine detail has been recovered.
For that reason, the accurate description is fan-upscaled 4K wallpapers or 4K-sized wallpapers created from screenshots. It would be misleading to call the files:
- native 4K frames;
- official 4K stills;
- lossless 4K screenshots; or
- proof that the original animation was rendered and released in 4K.
There is another source of confusion: “4K” can describe the file canvas rather than the active picture area. A frame may be cropped to the image’s actual aspect ratio, or resized and padded to a full 3840×2160 canvas. Those choices affect how the wallpaper appears on a monitor and whether black bars, cropping, or scaling are introduced.

Why the wallpapers still look appealing
Technical limitations do not make the collection uninteresting. Arcane was designed with unusually strong visual composition, so many frames work naturally as backgrounds:
- Character portraits: close-ups and profile shots provide clean focal points for a desktop or lock screen.
- World-building: Piltover and Zaun supply dense architectural scenes, industrial textures, bridges, laboratories, and illuminated cityscapes.
- Color and lighting: blue, violet, gold, red, and green palettes create wallpapers with very different moods.
- Action compositions: movement, silhouettes, and dramatic poses can fill a widescreen display more effectively than a conventional poster.
- Painterly detail: the show’s stylized rendering can make an enlarged frame feel intentionally illustrated, even when a close inspection reveals softness.
Not every image should be expected to look equally sharp. Upscaling can produce halos around high-contrast edges, overly smooth faces, ringing near lines, or a slightly fuzzy texture. The collection’s value is therefore partly aesthetic and curatorial: it identifies frames that make good backgrounds, rather than promising a flawless technical reconstruction of every shot.
How the 2021 collection fits into later fan archives
The original post was an early answer to a real availability gap. At the time, fans wanted high-resolution Arcane wallpapers, but the creator did not have access to native 4K source material. Later community projects expanded the same idea considerably:

| Archive or release period | What it represented | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| November 2021 | More than 100 upscaled Season 1 screenshots made with Cupscale | Fan-made captures and processing; not an official image pack |
| November 2024 | More than 350 upscaled Season 2 screenshots, organized by character or episode | The creator indicated that the Google Drive would be updated as additional acts were released |
| December 2024 | More than 2,300 upscaled and native wallpapers or screenshots covering Seasons 1 and 2 | The creator warned that some images could appear blurrier or fuzzier than desired |
| Other Season 2 projects | Separate archives reported more than 900 images and, in another finale-focused collection, more than 1,200 images | Counts and organization vary between community projects |
These later archives are important context: the 2021 collection is historically significant, but it is no longer the largest fan-maintained source. Readers looking for a particular Season 2 scene or a full-series archive may find the newer character- and episode-sorted projects more convenient. Their file links, contents, and availability can change, however, so a Reddit post or Google Drive should not be treated as a permanent catalog.
Official 4K home media changes the quality ceiling
Official physical media provides a different source option from fan-upscaled streaming screenshots. GKIDS has released Arcane: League of Legends home-entertainment editions in 4K UHD and Blu-ray formats. The Season 2 4K presentation includes all nine episodes and Dolby Vision HDR, along with bonus material such as featurettes, storyboards, animatics, music videos, and an art gallery. GKIDS also markets a Season 1 4K UHD Collector’s Set containing all nine episodes with Dolby Vision HDR.

A 4K UHD release describes the delivery format and presentation. It does not, by itself, establish the resolution of every stage of the animation pipeline.
Where to find more Arcane visual material
Official 4K editions
Readers who want an official high-resolution viewing source can compare the Arcane Season 1 4K UHD Collector’s Set with the Arcane Season 2 4K UHD release. These are physical-media products rather than downloadable wallpaper libraries, and availability may depend on region, retailer stock, and edition. The main reasons to choose them are licensed presentation, HDR support where available, collector packaging, and bonus content—not a promise of unrestricted image extraction.
If you want more Arcane art
The Art and Making of Arcane is a natural companion to a wallpaper collection. The hardcover book is a 224-page behind-the-scenes volume covering visual development, character design, environments, and production, with contributions from artists, writers, directors, designers, and other creators. It offers the concept work and development context that a screenshot archive cannot provide. Readers interested in how the show’s characters, locations, and visual language were built may find it more valuable than simply collecting additional frame grabs.

Copyright and attribution
The Reddit collection is fan-created, but the underlying Arcane images remain copyrighted material associated with the show’s rights holders, including Riot Games, Fortiche, and distribution partners. The Reddit creator’s contribution is the selection, capture, upscaling, processing, and organization of the images—not ownership of the show’s characters or artwork.
That distinction matters if you plan to use the images beyond personal wallpaper use. A publication should not republish a complete downloadable archive, present the files as official assets, or assume that a community-hosted Google Drive provides a distribution license. Check applicable copyright law, platform rules, and any permissions required for commercial or editorial reuse. Giving credit to the fan creator is appropriate, but attribution alone does not replace permission where permission is required.

What readers should expect from the original collection
- More than 100 Season 1 images: enough variety for character portraits, environments, action scenes, and mood-based desktop rotation.
- Upscaled rather than native 4K: the images were enlarged with Cupscale from screenshots because native 4K source material was not available to the creator.
- Wallpaper-oriented composition: the collection was made for desktops and Wallpaper Engine, not as an official production archive.
- Uneven technical results: some frames may look excellent at normal viewing distance while others show softness or processing artifacts.
- Uncertain long-term access: Reddit posts, comments, Google Drive folders, and file organization can change or disappear.
- A historical place in the fandom: later projects grew the concept into hundreds or thousands of Season 1 and Season 2 images.
Bottom line
The 2021 r/arcane post is best understood as an early fan-maintained wallpaper archive, not an official 4K image release. Its more than 100 Season 1 screenshots were enlarged with Cupscale and selected because Arcane’s characters, cities, lighting, and painterly compositions translate unusually well to desktop backgrounds. Later fan archives are much larger, while official Season 1 and Season 2 4K UHD editions provide a licensed, higher-quality home-media source. For the fullest visual context, pair the wallpapers with The Art and Making of Arcane—a book that explores the design and production work behind the frames fans are collecting.
