What are the best Spider-Man and Punisher team-up comics? These ten memorable encounters make the list because they turn the pair’s uneasy dynamic into part of the story: Spider-Man tries to save lives without killing, while the Punisher is willing to use lethal force. The order is an editorial ranking, not an official Marvel list. It weighs how much the characters cooperate, how consequential their moral clash is, and how distinctive each premise feels.
Some entries are reluctant alliances, some are conflicts, and one belongs to the separate Ultimate continuity. They are not all straightforward two-man partnerships.

How this ranking works
The ranking uses three editorial criteria: whether the heroes share a goal or spend the story opposing each other; whether their disagreement over lethal force matters to the plot; and whether the premise gives the encounter a distinctive hook. The comics come from different eras and continuities, so the list is not a direct comparison of identical versions of the characters.
The 10 best Spider-Man and Punisher team-up comics
10. Spider-Man/The Punisher/Sabretooth: Designer Genes
This three-way encounter is a candidate for readers who want a crowded, unstable alliance rather than a clean Spider-Man-and-Punisher partnership. A specialist crossover index describes Spider-Man as caught between the Punisher and Sabretooth as a larger danger emerges. The index is unaffiliated with Marvel, so treat its plot description as a guide to the story, not an official synopsis. Punisher Comics’ team-up index.

9. Spider-Man vs. The Punisher: No One Here Gets Out Alive
The title advertises the friction, and the premise turns it into a mystery: someone appears to be targeting Spider-Man with a rifle, prompting Peter Parker and Frank Castle to seek the truth. This is more an uneasy investigation than a friendly team-up. The plot description comes from the same specialist crossover index; Marvel’s series index lists Spider-Man Vs. Punisher (2000), but the available official listing does not establish the precise issue mapping for this story. Punisher Comics’ team-up index and Marvel’s A to Z in Marvel Comic Series.
8. Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #6–8
This three-part story is not a simple alliance, and it is not set in the main Marvel continuity. Marvel describes issue #8 as part three of “Spider-Man & the Punisher (& Daredevil)”: Spider-Man and Daredevil team up to take the Punisher down. That reversal gives the encounter its appeal—Spider-Man’s role is not to help Frank, but to stop him. Marvel’s issue listing for Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #8.
7. Spider-Man/Punisher: Family Plot
The series title signals a story built around both heroes, making it a useful option for readers looking beyond a single-issue encounter. Marvel’s series index confirms that the title exists, but the official listing available here does not provide a synopsis or issue-level plot details. It earns a place as a named crossover, with less plot-specific evidence than the entries above. Marvel’s A to Z in Marvel Comic Series.
Rank #2
6. The Punisher: Character Close Up — an early encounter
Marvel describes an early meeting between the pair as the first of many. That matters in a ranking of their team-ups: this encounter establishes a relationship that can recur without implying that the two share Spider-Man’s moral limits. Marvel’s page was not accessible in the available source material, so the claim here is limited to Marvel’s search-result description rather than expanded into an unverified plot summary. 5. Punisher War Journal #16
This Punisher-led story gives the partnership a hostage crisis: a gang holds the Daily Bugle and Mary Jane hostage, drawing Spider-Man into the action. Marvel’s listing dates the issue March 1, 1990 and credits Mike Baron and Neil Hansen. The available listing provides only a short synopsis, so the case for this issue rests on its compact, high-stakes setup rather than claims about unverified scene-by-scene details. Marvel’s issue listing for Punisher War Journal #16.
4. Avenging Spider-Man #22
This encounter features Superior Spider-Man, not the usual Peter Parker status quo. Mysterio’s return sets his approach against the Punisher’s: in Marvel’s description, Frank has bullets ready while Superior Spider-Man asks questions. That contrast gives the issue a sharp hook, and the change in Spider-Man’s identity makes it distinct from a standard Peter-and-Frank pairing. Marvel dates the issue June 12, 2013 and credits Christopher Yost and Marco Checchetto. Marvel’s issue listing for Avenging Spider-Man #22.
Rank #3
3. The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #175
In this 1977 issue, Spider-Man and the Punisher hit a dead end before Frank reveals his history with Hitman. The story also carries threads involving the People’s Liberation Front and Harry Osborn’s psychiatrist, giving the meeting a wider web of complications than a simple crime-fighting partnership. Marvel dates the issue December 1, 1977 and credits Len Wein and Ross Andru. It stands out as an early encounter that makes the uneasy pair’s history part of the story. Marvel’s issue listing for The Amazing Spider-Man #175.
2. Spider-Man/The Punisher/Sabretooth: Designer Genes — the volatile three-way clash
This story’s three-character setup makes the pair’s cooperation precarious: Spider-Man is caught between Frank Castle and Sabretooth as a larger threat surfaces. The specialist index’s synopsis supports the broad premise, but not a more detailed account of the plot. Its placement here rewards the tension of a story in which Spider-Man has to contend with two dangerous allies or adversaries at once. Punisher Comics’ team-up index.

A hostage emergency at the Daily Bugle is the most immediately legible shared problem on this list: Mary Jane is among those held, and Spider-Man and the Punisher are drawn into the same crisis. It puts the pair’s different methods against a concrete clock, even though Marvel’s short listing does not establish how much they cooperate in the issue. This is a ranking choice, not a claim that Marvel has named it the definitive team-up. Marvel’s issue listing for Punisher War Journal #16.

For a physical collection, Marvel lists Punisher War Journal by Carl Potts & Jim Lee as a trade paperback published September 14, 2016. It has 496 pages and collects Punisher War Journal (1988) #1–19 plus material from Annual #2; Marvel’s description mentions a Spider-Man team-up. It is a broad early-run collection, not a Spider-Man/Punisher-only book. Marvel’s trade paperback listing.
Why the pair’s uneasy dynamic makes these stories memorable
Spider-Man and the Punisher can be pointed at the same danger without agreeing on what should happen next. That tension is the through-line across these stories: sometimes they investigate together, sometimes Spider-Man tries to stop Frank, and sometimes a third character or a changed continuity complicates the pairing. The most rewarding encounters make that disagreement consequential rather than treating the Punisher as just another guest star.
