Dominik Mysterio’s WWE career began on television when he was a child, long before he wrestled his first match. Since his 2020 debut, he has gone from teaming with his father, Rey Mysterio, to building the arrogant “Dirty Dom” villain persona that he says he enjoys playing. Here are 10 details that trace that path, separating his real-life career milestones from WWE’s on-screen stories.
1. His WWE story began in childhood
Before he became a wrestler, Dominik appeared as a child in the WWE storyline involving his father, Rey Mysterio, and Eddie Guerrero. The angle centered on a custody dispute. In an April 2025 interview with Netflix Tudum, Dominik recalled that being part of the story helped him fall in love with wrestling.
2. He did not wrestle his first match until 2020
Dominik’s childhood appearances on WWE programming were not his in-ring debut. WWE dates that debut to SummerSlam 2020, when he faced Seth Rollins in a Street Fight. The distinction matters: he had already been part of a major wrestling storyline, but this was his first match as a competitor.
3. He and Rey Mysterio made tag-team history
After entering the ring, Dominik teamed with Rey. WWE identifies them as the first father-son duo to win a WWE Tag Team title. Their partnership gave Dominik a career chapter alongside the father whose wrestling story had first brought him onto WWE television.

4. The 2022 Judgment Day turn created “Dirty Dom”
At Clash at the Castle in 2022, Dominik attacked Rey in a scripted WWE storyline and joined The Judgment Day. WWE presents that faction turn as the start of his “Dirty Dom” identity. It was an on-screen betrayal, not evidence of a real-life break with his father.
5. He says he enjoys being the villain
In his April 7, 2025 Netflix Tudum interview, Dominik put it plainly: “I enjoy being a bad guy.” He said the role gives him more freedom in what he can do and say, and lets him take the Mysterio name in a different direction. His crowd-facing arrogance is part of a performed WWE character.

6. He has twice won the NXT North American Championship
WWE lists two reigns as NXT North American Champion among Dominik’s career highlights. The title record shows that his singles career developed alongside the family and faction storylines that have defined much of his television character.
7. His 2024 alliance shift reshaped The Judgment Day
At SummerSlam 2024, Dominik’s character turned on Rhea Ripley’s character and aligned with Liv Morgan, a televised storyline twist that WWE says formed a new version of The Judgment Day. The betrayal belongs to the show’s plot; it should not be read as a claim about the performers’ private relationships.

8. WrestleMania 41 brought his first WrestleMania win and an Intercontinental title
WWE’s profile records Dominik’s victory in a Fatal 4-Way match at WrestleMania 41 as both his first WrestleMania win and the occasion he captured the Intercontinental Championship. A multi-person match meant he could win without pinning every opponent.
9. He later regained the Intercontinental title from John Cena
WWE’s profile says Dominik lost the Intercontinental Championship to John Cena and later recaptured it at Survivor Series in San Diego. The profile describes that event as Cena’s final Premium Live Event. Taken together with his WrestleMania 41 win, WWE lists Dominik as a two-time Intercontinental Champion; its later title information says he lost the championship to Penta, who retained it at WrestleMania 42. He is therefore a two-time former champion, not the current titleholder according to those records.
