The Colón family’s wrestling legacy spans the ring and the promotion office. Carlos Colón became a major figure in Puerto Rican wrestling as a performer and promoter, while his sons Carlito and Primo, and his nephew Epico, carried the family name into WWE. Here are ten important parts of that history, with WWE’s records distinguished from the family’s own recollections.

1. Carlos Colón was a wrestler and a promoter

WWE says Carlos Colón began wrestling in the late 1960s, worked in the United States, then returned to Puerto Rico and helped found Capitol Sports Promotions, later known as the World Wrestling Council (WWC). WWE describes the WWC as Puerto Rico’s premier wrestling organization. That framing comes from WWE; it is not an independent ranking of promotions. WWE’s Carlos Colón profile

2. His influence was built around Puerto Rico

WWE portrays Colón as a major local attraction who brought mainland wrestlers to Puerto Rico. In a 2014 WWE interview, his sons Eddie and Orlando recalled the crowds their father drew and the connection he had with fans. Those comments are family memories, not independently verified attendance figures. Eddie compared his father’s standing with Hulk Hogan’s, saying, “My dad’s the equivalent of Hulk Hogan, if not bigger, in Puerto Rico.” That is Eddie’s assessment, not a measured popularity statistic. 3. The Abdullah the Butcher rivalry became a defining story

WWE says Colón’s rivalry with Abdullah the Butcher lasted nearly 20 years and helped make Puerto Rico a must-see wrestling territory. WWE’s account says the feud ended in 1997, when Colón “banished” Abdullah from Puerto Rico. Treat that dramatic word as WWE’s storytelling rather than a formal or independently documented event. WWE’s profile points fans to a Colón–Abdullah match from Starrcade 1983. WWE’s Carlos Colón profile

4. WWE lists Colón as a 26-time WWC Universal champion

WWE’s profile calls Colón a 26-time WWC Universal Heavyweight Champion. It also lists the NWA Championship and the WWC North American and Puerto Rico Heavyweight Championships. The 26-time figure is WWE’s record; the championship reign count has not been independently cross-checked here. WWE’s Carlos Colón profile

5. He entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014

WWE dates Colón’s Hall of Fame induction to April 6, 2014. His son Carlito inducted him and later described the occasion as a source of pride and a family honor. WWE’s Carlos Colón profile Carlito’s WWE interview, April 5, 2014

The Monday Night War: WWE Raw vs. WCW Nitro
  • In 1995, two wrestling companies squared off on Monday night television to compete head to head in an unprecedented confrontation. On one side, Vince McMahon, the promoter who created WWE and made the industry what it is today. On the other, WCW, owned by media giant Ted Turner, and run by an ambitious man named Eric Bischoff. This is the whole story, told by those who created it, lived it, and

6. Carlito brought the family name into WWE singles competition

WWE lists Carlito as an Intercontinental Champion and a United States Champion. His career also offers a window into the family’s Puerto Rican wrestling base: in a 2014 interview, he said the promotion his father ran gave wrestlers a place to work and learn a different style. 7. Primo is Carlos’s son; Epico is his cousin

WWE identifies Primo as Carlos Colón’s son and Epico’s cousin. Primo and Epico are therefore cousins. WWE’s profiles identify both men as WWE Tag Team Champions. WWE’s Primo profile WWE’s Epico profile

8. Colón family teams won WWE tag titles

WWE records championship success for two family pairings: Carlito and Primo, and Primo and Epico. The key point is that the family’s WWE accomplishments were not limited to individual titles; cousins and brothers also won as tag teams. WWE’s Carlito profile WWE’s Primo profile WWE’s Epico profile

9. The promotion created regular opportunities to learn

Carlito described his father’s promotion as a place where wrestlers could work consistently and develop. “They should know that thanks to him and his promotion, the stars of today and yesterday had a place to go work and groom themselves by learning a different style,” he said. He recalled that wrestlers could have “one or two matches every week.” This is Carlito’s account of the promotion’s contribution, not an independently audited schedule. Eddie and Orlando also recalled Carlos bringing prominent wrestlers to Puerto Rico and running shows across islands. 10. Orlando recalled advice that emphasized humility and drive

In WWE’s 2014 interview, Orlando Colón recalled advice from his uncle Carlos: “Stay positive, stay strong. Stay happy, stay humble. What got him to be a big star was all about being humble and staying hungry. Humble and hungry.” The words are Orlando’s recollection of a lesson passed down within the family.
