Which fictional mech would be the most fun to pilot? The answer depends on what you want from the cockpit: speed, teamwork, customization, an independent AI partner, or enough firepower to take on a kaiju. These ten picks offer very different imagined test drives. Their capabilities come from their respective fictional worlds, not real-world engineering.
What makes these mechs appealing to pilot?
This is a collection of distinct cockpit fantasies, not a measured ranking. The machines vary in mobility, weaponry, autonomy, modularity, transformation, and who—or what—must operate them. The descriptions below reflect the fictional portrayals summarized in Aaron Greenbaum’s February 6, 2024 SlashGear feature, rather than a definitive guide to franchise canon.
Which mech would you want to test-drive?
Lazengann: speed and a sharper edge
Lazengann is the sleek antagonist counterpart to Gurren Lagann in the feature’s account. Both can produce drills, but Lazengann is described as faster and more durable, with drills that can be wielded like whips. Its appeal is a nimble, aggressive machine that turns a familiar weapon into something more fluid.
Megazord: a cockpit built around teamwork
The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Megazord—known in Super Sentai as DaiZyuJin—forms from five beast-based robots. The feature highlights its sword-and-shield presentation and its ability to combine further into the Ultrazord. This is the pick for a group test drive: the feature says four friends are needed to pilot it.

Imperator-class Titan: scale over speed
Also called an Emperor Battle Titan, this Warhammer 40,000 machine is imagined as a colossal, slow-moving weapons platform, complete with fortified cathedral structures. The draw is sheer presence and armament rather than agility. Reported heights vary, so there is no single settled figure to attach to the design.
BT-7274: an AI with a Titan chassis
In Titanfall 2, BT-7274 is the AI designation associated with a Vanguard-class Titan—not the name of a separate chassis. The character can operate autonomously, use different equipment, and transfer to another Vanguard chassis. That makes this cockpit fantasy less about managing every action yourself and more about partnering with a capable machine intelligence.

GaoGaiGar: spectacular combination, demanding controls
GaoGaiGar combines vehicles with a lion robot and draws on alien technology in its fictional setting. Its oversized tools and weapons promise spectacle, but the feature says the act of piloting puts severe stress on the body and requires a super-strong cyborg. It sounds thrilling, provided the pilot meets that decidedly fictional prerequisite.
Megas XLR: gamepad controls and comic excess
Megas XLR begins as an alien prototype, then gets customized by its human characters. Its most memorable alterations include a Plymouth Barracuda in place of its head and controls based on video-game controllers. The result is a deliberately over-the-top machine whose appeal lies in exaggerated firepower and surprising agility, not polished military design.

Armored Core: build the machine around your preferences
Armored Core offers the most hands-on configuration fantasy on this list. Its ACs are built around a core and assembled from interchangeable parts, with weight and energy use limiting what a build can carry. If you want to choose how your mech moves and fights rather than inherit a fixed design, this is the natural game-based pick.
Liger Zero: a feline frame with changing armor
The feline Liger Zero comes from Zoids, a franchise that began as a model-kit series. Its armor sets change both the machine’s appearance and its capabilities, making it an appealing choice for someone who wants an animal-shaped mech with distinct configurations. The model-kit connection makes “Zoids Liger Zero model kit” a relevant search, but it does not establish that a particular kit is currently available.

Kiryu: a remote-piloted kaiju fighter
Kiryu—also known as Millennium Mechagodzilla or MFS-3—is built for a very specific job: fighting kaiju. In the films’ fictional lore, its framework uses Godzilla bones, and its arsenal includes the Absolute Zero weapon. The feature also describes remote piloting and an AI connection; these are story elements, not technologies demonstrated in the real world.
Jehuty: high mobility powered by fictional ore
Jehuty is an Orbital Frame from Zone of the Enders, equipped with weapons, an assisting AI, and exceptional mobility. Its setting attributes capabilities such as near-limitless energy and regeneration to Metatron, a fictional ore. For a test drive, Jehuty’s appeal is a highly maneuverable machine with an onboard assistant and an otherworldly power source.

Which one suits your idea of a perfect test drive?
- For speed: Lazengann or Jehuty.
- For teamwork and combination: Megazord or GaoGaiGar.
- For an AI partner: BT-7274 or Jehuty.
- For customization: Armored Core or Liger Zero.
- For overwhelming scale or firepower: the Imperator-class Titan or Kiryu.
- For playful, unconventional controls: Megas XLR.
If you want to act on the customization idea rather than just imagine it, Armored Core is the most direct interactive route in this list: its core-and-parts format puts configuration at the center of the experience. For a physical object, Zoids’ model-kit origins make Liger Zero a natural place to start looking, though availability depends on current listings.
