This is a historical snapshot, not a list of sites verified to work today. At the beginning of 2024, TorrentFreak ranked ten popular torrent-site domains by traffic estimates. The ranking does not establish current availability, download safety, or whether any particular file may lawfully be shared. TorrentFreak also says it does not endorse the sites and warns that some have linked to malicious ads. Read TorrentFreak’s ranking and qualifications.
What the 2024 ranking measures—and what it does not
TorrentFreak’s list reflects the popularity of individual domains at the start of 2024, based on traffic reports. Its scope is globally available English-language sites; it does not combine a site’s proxies or alternatives into one ranking. The publisher says it excluded other high-traffic sites because they did not fit that scope, including Rutracker.org, Yggtorrent.qa, Etoland.co.kr, and Zamunda.net. The list is therefore neither exhaustive worldwide nor a test of quality.
A high rank is not evidence that a domain is reachable now, that a download is authentic or safe, or that sharing its files is lawful. The source warns that some listed sites have linked to malicious ads and states: “We do not recommend or endorse using any of these sites.”

Are these torrent sites still working?
This article does not verify whether any of the ten domains is reachable or operating now. Domain access and site status can change, and a 2024 traffic ranking cannot establish current uptime. For that reason, “100% working” is not a supportable promise. No current mirrors or alternate domains are listed here.
Is downloading or sharing a torrent legal?
BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file-sharing method; legality depends on the material, the permission or other applicable legal basis for sharing it, and the law that applies where you are. A torrent is not automatically unlawful, but using a torrent site does not make copyrighted material free to redistribute. TorrentFreak says BitTorrent should be used to share material with rightsholder permission.

Privacy and safer lawful alternatives
Do not use Tor as a torrent privacy workaround
The Tor Project says most torrent clients may disclose a user’s real IP address to peers, and that torrent traffic burdens volunteer exit relays. Its guidance is direct: “Using Torrent clients over Tor is unsafe and not recommended.” Read Tor Project guidance on torrenting.

Use official and openly licensed sources
For lawful downloads, start with official software distribution torrents or collections of public-domain and openly licensed works, and check the license and source for each item. The community-maintained Torrust directory lists official torrents for Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Slackware, alongside collections that include Internet Archive material and Project Gutenberg ebooks. Its entries and availability can change; confirm that a work is genuinely public domain or openly licensed before downloading or redistributing it. Browse the Torrust torrent directory.
Download client installers carefully
BitTorrent support recommends downloading its official client from its websites. The company says antivirus products may classify its client as a potentially unwanted program because the installer can include optional third-party offers, and advises users to reject unwanted offers. This is the vendor’s explanation, not an independent malware assessment. Read BitTorrent’s support explanation.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative’s 2025 Review of Notorious Markets reported that Torrent Galaxy had received over 320 million visits since August 2023, attributing that figure to reports. It is a reported figure, not independently audited traffic, and it does not establish current availability or the safety or legality of downloads. Read the USTR 2025 Review of Notorious Markets.
