New Netflix shows arriving October 1–4
East of Eden — October 1
Zoe Kazan adapts John Steinbeck’s classic in a story set in the early 1900s. An independent woman’s choices divide two brothers across generations. It’s the month’s literary-adaptation pick; readers who want the story’s original form can pair the series with Steinbeck’s novel, while keeping in mind that an adaptation need not reproduce a book exactly.

The Ramparts of Ice, season 2 — October 1
This returning anime follows four friends as longing, competition, and strain complicate their relationships. Choose it for character-driven romance and interpersonal drama, rather than a new standalone story.
Blue Box, season 2 — October 4
Taiki and Chinatsu face changing feelings, a fractured friendship from the past, and competition on the road to nationals. Its blend of romance and sports makes it a fit for viewers who want relationship stakes alongside athletic ambition.

Hollywood Arts — October 15
Trina Vega returns to guide gifted teens at a performing arts school. The familiar character and school setting make this the teen-sitcom option on the list.
The Diplomat, season 4 — October 15
A US diplomat balances a high-stakes ambassadorial role in the UK with a strained marriage to a political strategist. Start here for political maneuvering tied closely to a personal relationship; this is the fourth season of an existing story.
Rank #2
The Storm — October 15
Old university friends gather at a luxury lodge, where a storm traps them together and an ostensibly civilized celebration gives way to betrayals and old grudges. The contained setting and ensemble conflict offer a thriller-and-drama alternative to the month’s relationship comedies.
Late-October returns and relationship stories
Nobody Wants This, season 3 — October 22
An agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi fall in love while navigating their differences and meddling families. Pick this relationship comedy-drama for mismatched leads and family complications.

Lupin, part 4 — October 23
Inspired by Arsène Lupin, Assane Diop sets out to avenge his father after an injustice by a wealthy family. This returning French-language gentleman-thief drama is the crime-adventure choice; it continues an established story rather than introducing a separate premise.
Dangerous Liaisons, season 1 — October 27
In old Paris, two cunning outcasts use seduction in a romance that becomes a battle of wits. Try it for period drama and manipulation rather than contemporary relationship comedy.
