Looking back at Netflix’s 2025 anime slate, these ten titles stand out for their mix of returning series, manga adaptations, original worlds and family-friendly animation. The year has passed, so this is a retrospective—not a list of what is still upcoming. Netflix did not publish a “best ten” ranking; the selection and order below are editorial, based on variety, recognizable franchises or source material, and the strength of the release information available at announcement time. A release date or “global” label in an announcement does not establish availability in every country today.
How to read this 2025 watchlist
Netflix’s announcements offer more candidates than can be treated as a definitive top ten. The list below is a selection, not comprehensive coverage of every title Netflix discussed. Release timing is included only where the cited announcement supports it; regional schedules and present-day catalog availability may differ.
The breadth of the slate reflects Netflix’s reported anime audience, not a forecast for any one show. Netflix said its anime titles received more than 1 billion views in 2024, anime viewership had tripled over five years, more than 50% of global members watched anime, and 80–90% of members watched dubbed anime. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited measures. Netflix’s 2025 anime viewing figures
10 Netflix anime titles announced or promoted for 2025
1. The Summer Hikaru Died
Why it stands out: This adaptation brings a quiet, unsettling friendship story into supernatural horror. Netflix’s synopsis centers on Yoshiki, whose friend Hikaru returns from the mountains looking and acting like himself, but is not quite the same. Netflix announced a July 5, 2025 premiere for the adaptation of Mokumokuren’s manga, published by KADOKAWA. Ryohei Takeshita directed, with animation by CygamesPictures. 2. SAKAMOTO DAYS
Why it stands out: The series pairs action with an unlikely lead: a former legendary hitman now living as a shopkeeper and family man. Netflix said the anime would premiere globally on January 11, 2025. “Globally” describes the announcement’s intended premiere scope; it should not be read as confirmation of current availability in every territory. Netflix’s Jump Festa announcement
3. DAN DA DAN Season 2
Why it stands out: A returning season gives viewers more of the series’ collision of supernatural threats, science-fiction oddities and teen comedy. Netflix announced a worldwide premiere in July 2025. The cited announcement does not give a day, and its worldwide wording does not establish present-day availability in every market. 8. Moonrise
Why it stands out: The title adds another distinct option to the slate for viewers looking beyond familiar adaptations and returning properties. THE ONE PIECE
Netflix described THE ONE PIECE as a new WIT Studio adaptation beginning with the East Blue Saga and called it “coming soon” in its December 2024 Jump Festa announcement. That wording did not set a 2025 release date, so it is not counted here as a confirmed 2025 premiere. Netflix’s Jump Festa announcement
Devil May Cry
Netflix featured Devil May Cry in the March 2025 AnimeJapan recap, but that recap does not label every featured title as upcoming in the same way. It is therefore part of the broader 2025 anime conversation, not a title for which this source establishes a specific 2025 release date. Netflix’s AnimeJapan recap
