That is the publication’s editorial recommendation, not an official Netflix annual ranking: Netflix’s 2025 viewing reports cover January–June and July–December separately.
The 10 movies in Tom’s Guide’s 2025 list
Tom’s Guide compiled its list from Netflix’s weekly Top 10 chart data. In the article’s published order, the ten films are:
- KPop Demon Hunters
- Back in Action
- Happy Gilmore 2
- STRAW
- Frankenstein
- Havoc
- The Life List
- My Oxford Year
- A House of Dynamite
- The Woman in Cabin 10
This is the order in Tom’s Guide’s roundup, not a Netflix-issued calendar-year top ten. Netflix’s official 2025 first-half report and second-half report are separate six-month snapshots.
The three Tom’s Guide recommends
KPop Demon Hunters
Tom’s Guide’s pick for viewers after a colorful fantasy musical, the film centers on a fictional K-pop group. The reviewer highlights its animation, characters and songs, as well as its rewatchable energy. Netflix reported 482 million views for the title in its July–December 2025 report; that is a six-month figure, not a full-year total.

Frankenstein
Tom’s Guide recommends Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation for its visual approach to Mary Shelley’s story, production design and Jacob Elordi’s performance as the creature. Netflix reported 98 million views in the second half of 2025. If the film’s source material interests you, Shelley’s novel offers a separate way into the story; it is not necessary to read it before watching.
A House of Dynamite
For a tense political and military thriller, Tom’s Guide singles out this film’s scenario: officials respond to an unidentified nuclear missile launch. The reviewer also acknowledges that it is divisive and not a comfort watch, making it a better fit for viewers seeking tension than escapism. Netflix reported 76 million views in the second half of 2025.

What Netflix means by “views”
Netflix defines a title’s views as total hours watched divided by the title’s runtime. It is a viewing measure, not a count of distinct people: one person may watch more than once, and the figure does not tell you whether viewers liked the film. Netflix says its weekly global Top 10 lists separate English- and non-English-language films and TV, and notes that no single streaming metric is perfect. See Netflix’s Top 10 methodology.
The half-year reports give useful context, but their figures should not be mistaken for annual totals. Netflix reported over 95 billion hours watched across its service in the first half of 2025 and 96 billion in the second half. Among the ten films above, its first-half report lists 165 million views for Back in Action, 103 million for STRAW and 96 million for The Life List. Its second-half report lists 135 million for Happy Gilmore 2, alongside the figures for the three recommendations above. Each number applies to its stated six-month reporting window.

Why the list is not a quality ranking
Popularity and a recommendation answer different questions. Netflix’s view measure captures hours watched relative to runtime; it does not establish artistic quality or predict whether a particular viewer will enjoy a film. The three picks are Tom’s Guide’s judgment about which titles are worth a watch, not a finding derived from the view counts or a consensus score.
Rankings also depend on the source and method. FlixPatrol’s separate calendar-year compilation places KPop Demon Hunters, Back in Action and Happy Gilmore 2 first, reporting 518.3 million, 190.3 million and 135.1 million views respectively. Those are FlixPatrol’s figures and ordering, not Netflix’s official annual list, and they should not be substituted into Tom’s Guide’s chart-based roundup.
