James Blunt’s funniest Twitter posts often turn his public image into the punchline: he pokes fun at his music, answers critics with a sharp reversal, and finds comedy in everyday absurdity. Here are ten examples, with dates and the context available from the published collections. They are curated picks, not an objective ranking.

Why James Blunt’s tweets work

Blunt’s humor is not only a matter of delivering a comeback. The Guardian describes his instinct as making the joke about himself first. That self-awareness gives his posts room to tease his music and reputation without pretending he is outside the joke.

In a 2024 interview, Blunt explained why Twitter appealed to him: “When they invented Twitter, at least it gave me a voice to say, ‘I’m not the guy they’re portraying me to be’” (The Guardian, Feb. 18, 2024). He also described writing a post, showing it to either his wife or manager, and pressing send if they winced. That is his interview anecdote, not a claim that every tweet followed the same process.

10 funny James Blunt tweets

  1. “I can’t believe you have a friend either.”

Posted Feb. 21, 2021. This compact insult flips an implied jab back on its sender. The Poke included it in its roundup of Blunt’s tweets (The Poke, updated Feb. 22, 2021).

  2. “Worse must be realising you’re too thick to change the station.”

Posted Apr. 4, 2020. The target is the listener who complains about hearing Blunt’s music but keeps listening. Its humor depends on the familiar radio complaint—and on Blunt making himself part of the joke (The Poke, updated Feb. 22, 2021).

  3. “Singing ‘I saw your face in a crowded place’ suddenly seems a little dated.”

Posted Mar. 27, 2020. Blunt revisits a well-known lyric from “You’re Beautiful” and gives it an unexpected pandemic-era reading: crowded places suddenly feel less ordinary (The Poke, updated Feb. 22, 2021).

  4. “During lockdown, while many other artists are doing mini-concerts from their homes, I thought I’d do you all a favour and not.”

Posted Mar. 25, 2020. Instead of joining the stream of artists performing from home during lockdown, Blunt frames his absence as a public service. The gag works because he anticipates the audience’s reaction to the idea of a home concert (The Poke, updated Feb. 22, 2021).

  5. “Omar is the type of person who searches for his name on Twitter and doesn’t find anything.”

Posted July 29, 2018. A joke about an apparently obscure person becomes a joke about the vanity of searching for yourself online. The Poke reproduces the post in its 2021 collection (The Poke, updated Feb. 22, 2021).

  6. “Because I can’t find any”

Posted Nov. 18, 2018. Female First includes this terse reply in its collection of Blunt’s posts. Without the preceding exchange, the setup is not clear in the collection’s cited excerpt, so the line is best enjoyed as a deadpan fragment rather than given an invented backstory (Female First, Mar. 17, 2019).

  7. “If you thought 2016 was bad – I’m releasing an album in 2017”

Posted Dec. 13, 2016. This joke turns a year-end complaint into a mock warning about Blunt’s next album. The punchline is his willingness to play along with the public’s image of his music (Female First, Mar. 17, 2019).

  8. “Then kneel”

Posted Sept. 25, 2017. Female First presents this as a reply to a complaint about Blunt’s posh way of speaking. Two words are enough to turn a criticism of his accent into an absurdly imperious command (Female First, Mar. 17, 2019).

  9. “Prince Harry. By text. BOOM!”

Posted May 10, 2016. A user asked, “Who the fuck invited James Blunt to the Invictus Games?” Blunt’s answer supplies a short, unmistakable explanation: Prince Harry invited him by text. The exchange appears in DailyEdge’s collection and is also recounted by the Guardian (DailyEdge, 2017; The Guardian, Feb. 18, 2024).

  10. “No excuse for ignorance”

Posted June 18, 2024. The Poke’s 2024 roundup records this as a newer example of Blunt’s concise, pointed style. The collection excerpt does not establish more of the exchange, so the line stands here without a guessed setup (The Poke, July 2, 2024).

A comic voice built on self-awareness

The jokes range from teasing listeners to answering a direct insult, but the recurring device is Blunt’s willingness to use his own music and reputation as material. Some punchlines land in a single sentence; others rely on the preceding comment, as the Invictus Games exchange shows. The older posts here were made on Twitter, the platform now called X.
