This is an editorial ranking, not an objective industry-wide verdict: the order weighs newcomer accessibility, distinctiveness of premise and tone, visual direction, genre variety, and audience recognition.
Anime Corner’s 2024 year-end poll is useful context, but it combines debuts with sequels and earlier shows. Its 51,698-voter overall poll named Too Many Losing Heroines! the best new anime among its results; that is a poll finding, not universal consensus. The ranking below uses audience recognition as one signal while keeping the focus on series that actually debuted in 2024.

How this ranking works
Each pick is a first-season debut from calendar 2024. The order balances how easily a new viewer can enter the story, the freshness of its premise and tone, storytelling and visual craft, variety across genres, and evidence of audience interest. These are editorial criteria, not a measured scoring system.
Anime Corner’s poll should not be mistaken for a debut-only chart. Published February 28, 2025, it reports 51,698 voters and places The Dangers in My Heart Season 2 first overall, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End second, and Too Many Losing Heroines! third. The first is a sequel and the second began before 2024. Anime Corner interprets Too Many Losing Heroines! as the top new anime in those overall results. The 10 best new anime of 2024
1. DAN DA DAN
DAN DA DAN turns a supernatural argument into a fast-moving collision of action, comedy, and teenage romance. Momo believes in ghosts but not aliens; Okarun believes in aliens but not ghosts. Encounters with the paranormal make both positions difficult to defend, giving newcomers a clean premise to follow even as the series shifts between absurd humor and high-energy danger.
Crunchyroll lists its first-season debut as October 4, 2024, with 12 episodes, and identifies Science SARU as producer, Fuga Yamashiro as director, Yoshimichi Kameda as creature designer, and Kensuke Ushio as composer. The anime adapts Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga. Crunchyroll’s March 2024 announcement also notes English-language access to the manga through VIZ Media, Shonen Jump, and Manga Plus. See Crunchyroll’s DAN DA DAN series page and its manga and streaming announcement. Streaming availability can vary by territory.
2. Too Many Losing Heroines!
This romantic comedy begins with a smart reversal: its focus is on the girls who have just been rejected by the heroines’ supposed happy endings. That lets the show play with familiar school-romance conventions while giving its characters room for awkwardness, humor, and unexpected connection. It is also the clearest audience-recognition pick in this ranking: Anime Corner identified it as 2024’s best new anime within its overall poll interpretation, and it placed second in the poll’s comedy category at 18.26%.
3. Days with My Stepsister
A deliberately measured domestic drama, Days with My Stepsister finds tension in the adjustment to a newly blended family rather than relying on constant plot shocks. Its quieter pace and attention to boundaries make it a strong choice for viewers who want character observation over spectacle. Anime Corner’s poll placed it first in drama at 18.62%; category percentages reflect separate ballots and should not be read as a direct comparison with the overall poll.

4. Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 pairs large-scale monster battles with the grounded frustration of an adult who has not achieved his childhood ambition. That combination gives its science-fiction action a clear emotional entry point. Anime Corner’s poll recognized it as the science-fiction category leader at 37.53%, a category result that signals genre appeal rather than a universal ranking across all anime.
5. Wind Breaker
For viewers drawn to street-level action and team dynamics, Wind Breaker centers on a delinquent who arrives at a school known for fighting, only to find that its students also protect their community. The premise gives familiar brawler action a social dimension and makes loyalty as important as who wins the next fight. Anime Corner placed it sixth overall, though that overall chart includes series outside the 2024-debut scope.
6. Ragna Crimson
Ragna Crimson is a darker fantasy-action option built around a hunter’s struggle against dragons and an alliance that reshapes his path. Its heightened stakes and combative tone offer a sharp contrast to the comedy and domestic drama elsewhere on this list. Anime Corner’s overall poll ranked it tenth, but the poll’s mixed-year lineup means that placement is context, not a debut-only rank.
7. The Apothecary Diaries
Historical mystery provides the appeal of The Apothecary Diaries: observant apothecary Maomao uses her knowledge of medicines and poisons to untangle problems in the imperial court. The pleasure comes less from battles than from watching clues, social rules, and character motives fit together. Anime Corner’s overall poll ranked the series fifth, but it began before 2024, so it does not qualify for a strict first-season-debut list.
8. Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko Season 2 was a major title in Anime Corner’s poll, where it ranked eighth overall, but it is a returning season rather than a 2024 debut. It belongs in the poll context, not in a list restricted to new series. Its inclusion here would break the stated scope, so it is not counted among the ten ranked entries.
9. Date A Live V
Date A Live V also appears in Anime Corner’s overall top ten, at ninth, but its “V” denotes a fifth season. It is another example of why a broad year-end chart cannot be treated as a list of shows that began in that year. Returning franchises may be relevant to the year’s anime conversation without qualifying as new series.
10. The Dangers in My Heart Season 2
Anime Corner’s 2024 poll winner was The Dangers in My Heart Season 2, with 10.55% of the overall vote. That is strong evidence of audience enthusiasm, but the show is a sequel and therefore outside this article’s debut-only definition. It illustrates the difference between “best anime of 2024” in a general poll and “best new anime of 2024” under a first-season rule.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a year-end poll is not a debut ranking
Anime Corner’s overall results mix first-season debuts, sequels, and series that began in earlier years. Its top three—The Dangers in My Heart Season 2, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Too Many Losing Heroines!—show that distinction clearly: only the third is treated as a 2024 new anime in the poll article’s interpretation. The poll’s genre categories add useful evidence that viewers valued different kinds of shows: DAN DA DAN led animation at 18.91%, Days with My Stepsister led drama, and Kaiju No. 8 led science fiction. Because category ballots had different voter counts, those percentages are not a shared scale for comparing the series.
