The strongest mystery series of 2025 range from an award-winning thriller to cold-case investigations, a White House whodunit and a science-fiction puzzle. This ranking covers series that premiered in 2025, rather than returning shows with a new season, and orders them by how compellingly they build a mystery, sustain their performances and pacing, and deliver a payoff. It is an editorial shortlist, not an industry consensus; where to stream each show depends on your country and can change.
How this ranking works
Rotten Tomatoes named Task: Season 1 its 2025 Golden Tomato winner for Best Mystery & Thriller Series, the clearest award distinction among the shows here. The Associated Press selected breakout shows in no particular order. Neither signal establishes a universal ranking, so the order below reflects editorial judgment about mystery construction, performance, pacing, payoff and tone. The scope is series that premiered in 2025, not any returning mystery series that aired a season that year.
The 10 best mystery shows of 2025
1. Task (Season 1)
Task takes the top spot because it has the most prominent formal recognition in this group: Rotten Tomatoes’ 2025 Golden Tomato Award for Best Mystery & Thriller Series. That award makes it a strong starting point for viewers choosing a 2025 mystery, though it is not proof that every critic or viewer would rank it first. The award listing does not supply a plot description, so this recommendation rests on the distinction rather than an unsupported account of its story.
2. Dept. Q
For a serialized cold-case investigation, Dept. Q follows a brilliant, brash cop leading a new police department and an unlikely team solving cases in Edinburgh. Netflix describes the series on its official show page; the Associated Press identifies it as a 2025 breakout based on a Danish book series. The premise gives the show room to combine team dynamics with the gradual unpicking of old cases. Netflix is the cited U.S.-oriented viewing reference; check your local catalog.

3. The Residence
The Residence turns a murder investigation into a contained ensemble whodunit. Netflix describes the eight-episode 2025 series as an eccentric detective’s investigation of a killing at the White House residence, with staff and state-dinner guests among the suspects. Uzo Aduba plays investigator Cordelia Cupp, as Netflix Tudum reports. The setting supplies a natural suspect pool, while the limited episode count makes it a useful pick for viewers who want a defined run rather than an open-ended procedural. Netflix is the cited viewing reference; availability varies by territory.
4. Ballard
Ballard is a cold-case crime series with a broader conspiracy in its sights. Prime Video describes LAPD detective Renée Ballard investigating murders and cold cases while confronting a police conspiracy. All 10 episodes debuted on Prime Video on July 9, 2025, according to Amazon’s announcement. Its full-season drop suits viewers who prefer to follow an investigation at their own pace. Prime Video is the cited U.S.-oriented service; confirm local availability.

5. The Lowdown
This crime mystery takes a journalist-led route: Tulsa citizen journalist Lee Raybon investigates a suspicious death tied to a powerful family. Disney+ Canada classifies the 2025 series as a drama, mystery, comedy and crime show. That mix makes it a distinct choice from the more conventional police investigations on this list, with the journalist’s pursuit of the story at the center. The cited Disney+ page is for Canada; it does not establish availability elsewhere.
6. All Her Fault
All Her Fault is an eight-episode limited mystery thriller adapted from Andrea Mara’s 2021 novel. Peacock identifies it as a 2025 series on its official page. Its limited format makes it a natural pick for viewers who want a self-contained thriller. NBCUniversal called it “the most-watched original series in Peacock history” in its 2025 year-in-review; the company also said it ranked among the top five U.S. streaming original seasons during each of its first three weeks of availability. Those are corporate audience claims, not an independent measure of quality.

7. Paradise
Paradise blends science fiction, drama and mystery. Its hook is Secret Service agent Xavier Collins discovering that a powerful individual has been murdered, according to ABC’s official coverage. The Associated Press also describes the show as a mystery and reported its second-season renewal in its 2025 year-end roundup. The science-fiction element makes this the pick for viewers who want a puzzle beyond a conventional crime setting. The cited U.S.-oriented sources associate it with Hulu; check your territory’s catalog.
8. Common Side Effects
Common Side Effects is another 2025 nominee in Rotten Tomatoes’ Best Mystery & Thriller Series Golden Tomato awards. The nomination gives it a documented place among the year’s award-recognized genre series, but the award listing alone does not establish its premise, format, service or how its mystery unfolds. Treat it as a candidate to investigate rather than a recommendation based on plot details not established here.

9. Code of Silence
Code of Silence also appears among the Golden Tomato nominees for Best Mystery & Thriller Series of 2025. That recognition makes it relevant to a year-specific shortlist, but the award page does not provide enough detail to compare its story structure, performances or viewing availability with the better-documented shows above.
10. Task?
The available information supports seven entries with usable premise details and three award candidates, but it does not support a reliable tenth distinct title with comparable information. Rather than invent a recommendation or duplicate a series, this list stops at nine. Rotten Tomatoes’ nominee list can help readers discover further candidates, but a nominee listing by itself is not enough to establish a show’s premise or fit for every viewer.
