Rotten Tomatoes page snapshots confirm scores for four relevant titles, but they do not establish the Collider list’s entries or ordering. The figures below are dated snapshots, not a verified top-ten ranking.
What the verified Rotten Tomatoes pages show
These Tomatometer figures and critic-review counts were visible on Rotten Tomatoes pages accessed October 4, 2026. Scores can change as reviews or page data change; they should not be treated as permanent rankings.
| Film | Tomatometer snapshot | How closely it connects to a board game |
|---|---|---|
| Clue (1985) | 73% from 40 critic reviews | Rotten Tomatoes describes it as based on the popular board game. Its dinner-party murder mystery uses the game’s familiar character aliases. |
| Jumanji (1995) | 56% from 52 critic reviews | The story centers on a magical board game that unleashes adventure on siblings Peter and Judy Shepherd. |
| Battleship (2012) | 33% from 222 critic reviews | The film expands the game premise into an alien invasion confronted by American and Japanese naval forces. |
| Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) | 76% from 234 critic reviews | Part of the Jumanji film lineage, but its story centers on a video-game console rather than a straightforward board-game adaptation. |
Why these figures do not make a top-ten list
A Tomatometer percentage is not the same thing as an editorial ranking, an audience score, or a measure of how faithfully a movie adapts its game. The pages above provide a few confirmed examples, not the full set of films or the criteria used to order them in Collider’s article. A secondary search result reported that Zathura: A Space Adventure was seventh at 68%, but that detail was not confirmed against Collider or the current Rotten Tomatoes page, so it cannot safely fill the gap.
What makes a board-game movie difficult to adapt
Games can supply recognizable settings, characters, or mechanics without supplying a ready-made plot. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2012 coverage of Battleship discusses this challenge: a film has to turn a game premise into a story with stakes and characters. The 2012 Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus called the adaptation loud and formulaic, while judging it less fun than its source material.
#1 Best Overall
- The Help (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy)
For Clue, the Critics Consensus says the ensemble lifts the film above its source material, while its reliance on novelty makes its entertainment value “a roll of the dice.” The contrast illustrates why a familiar game connection alone does not guarantee a strong film—or a high Tomatometer score.

How to read the scores
- Tomatometer: the critic-rating metric shown in the figures above. The percentage is a page snapshot, and the review count helps show how many critic reviews were reflected at that time.
- Audience score: a different measure and not interchangeable with the Tomatometer. These figures do not establish audience-score rankings.
- Adaptation connection: distinguish a film directly based on a board game from a later franchise entry whose premise shifts to another format, as Welcome to the Jungle does with its video-game console.
