These services offer free, ad-supported movies and TV without a paid subscription. Kanopy and Hoopla can be excellent alternatives if you have participating-library access, while Xumo Play, FilmRise, YouTube, and Internet Archive cover more specific viewing needs.
If you are looking for legal alternatives to SolarMovie in 2026, start with Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, or Plex. They offer free, ad-supported movies and television without requiring a paid streaming subscription. Library users should also check Kanopy and Hoopla, while Xumo Play is another useful free option where available.
These services are not identical to SolarMovie: most are supported by advertisements, some require a library card, and catalogs vary by country, device, and licensing agreements. The following ten options are safer, legal places to look for free movies in 2026.
What to expect from a SolarMovie alternative
SolarMovie-style sites have historically attracted viewers by aggregating links to movies without making licensing clear. That creates legal, security, and reliability problems: a link can disappear, a title can be uploaded without permission, and aggressive pop-ups or deceptive download buttons can expose a viewer to malware or scams.

The services below use more transparent models. Most free commercial platforms show advertisements before or during a movie. Library services lend titles under the terms set by your participating institution. Public digital archives can contain material with different rights statuses, so the individual title record matters.

1. Tubi
Best overall starting point for free movies. Tubi is a free, ad-supported streaming service that does not require a subscription fee or credit card. Its business model is straightforward: short ad breaks help fund the service, so “free” does not mean ad-free.
The current Tubi homepage uses labels such as Sign In, Register, Start Watching, and Browse Titles. You can begin browsing without treating it like a paid subscription service. Tubi lists support for web browsers, Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Smart TVs, PlayStation, and Xfinity X1, although the precise catalog can differ between markets and devices.
Choose Tubi if you want the closest practical replacement for the “open a site and browse a large catalog” experience, but with a legitimate ad-supported model. Do not expect every newly released theatrical film or every title shown in another country.

2. Pluto TV
Best for viewers who like traditional channel surfing. Pluto TV combines live, scheduled channels with on-demand movies and television. Its current U.S. branding is “Pluto TV: Watch Free Movies, TV Shows & Live TV Online.”
Pluto TV is free because it is ad-supported. The live-channel format is useful when you do not have a specific movie in mind: choose a channel and watch what is scheduled, or switch to on-demand programming when you want more control. Because Pluto TV’s public page is dynamically rendered, menu labels can change between its website, apps, and connected-TV interfaces. Availability also depends on territory.
Pick Pluto TV over a conventional movie catalog when you want a free television-like experience with both live programming and an on-demand library.
3. The Roku Channel
Best for free content on Roku and beyond. The Roku Channel offers thousands of free shows and movies and more than 350 live TV channels, according to Roku’s current support information. It is not restricted to Roku hardware: Roku also makes it available through The Roku Channel website and mobile app.

- 1. 【Lightweight & Foldable 16:9 Screen】 Designed for casual indoor and outdoor use. This high-density polyester projection screen offers a wide viewing angle. It is incredibly lightweight and folds compactly to fit in your own backpack, making it the perfect budget-friendly choice for camping, backyard movie nights, or temporary setups.
- 2. 【Important: Material & Best Environment】 To achieve extreme portability and a highly cost-effective design, this screen is made to be thin and lightweight. IT IS NOT a thick, heavy-duty professional home theater screen. For the best image quality, we highly recommend using it in completely dark environments or hanging it directly against a solid, opaque wall..
- 3. 【Foldable Design & Crease Removal Guide】 Please note: The screen is shipped folded in basic packaging to minimize costs, so creases are normal upon arrival. To easily remove wrinkles, simply stretch the screen tightly using the included accessories for a few days, or iron it on the LOWEST heat setting with a damp cloth.
- 4. 【What's Included & Wall Safety Warning】 Package includes: 1x Projector Screen, Ropes, Hooks, and Double-Sided Tapes for quick setup (NOTE: Stand, bracket, and carry bag are NOT included). WARNING: Only use the tape on completely smooth surfaces like glass or tile. For painted walls, strictly use ropes or nails to prevent the tape from damaging your wall paint.
- 5. 【Budget-Friendly Casual Viewing】 Built for convenience and extreme value, this minimalist screen is the perfect entry-level accessory for casual family gatherings. If you are a professional cinephile looking for a premium, heavy, wrinkle-free fixed-frame screen with luxury packaging, this highly portable model might not fit your advanced needs.
4. Plex
Best for a large mix of free live TV and on-demand viewing. Plex currently advertises more than 600 free live-TV channels and more than 50,000 free on-demand titles. Its navigation includes Free Live TV, Free Movies & Shows, Rentals, and Discover, with calls to action such as Tune In Free, Watch Free TV, and Stream Free Now.
The free catalog is available on phones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, PCs, and the web. Plex also offers paid rentals and other premium features, so check that you are selecting the clearly marked free option rather than a rental.
One confusing detail on Plex’s current page is a footer stating that free TV streaming is a premium feature requiring Plex Pass, even though the same page prominently advertises free live TV and free on-demand content. The page’s contradictory footer appears to be a stale or generic template statement. The practical distinction is that Plex has a free ad-supported catalog, while some separate Plex features require payment; verify the label shown for the specific feature or title.

5. Kanopy
Best for documentaries, independent cinema, classics, and critically acclaimed films. Kanopy is not a free-for-everyone streaming site. Access depends on a participating public library or university. You generally need an eligible library card or an institutional login, and the catalog and viewing limits are determined by that institution.
Check Kanopy directly and search for your library or university. If your institution participates, it can be a better destination than ad-supported services for viewers who prefer documentaries, international films, independent productions, and classic cinema. If your library is not a participant, creating an account alone will not unlock the full service.
6. Hoopla
Best for borrowing movies through a public library. Hoopla is a digital lending service rather than an unrestricted free streaming platform. An eligible library card is required, and your library decides which titles and borrowing allowances are available.
Hoopla’s current homepage says users can borrow movies, TV, audiobooks, eBooks, comics, magazines, and music. Movies and television are available under its content categories, and titles can stream immediately. Most titles can also be downloaded to a phone or tablet for offline use, subject to the service’s lending terms and the specific title.
Use the current GET STARTED or Log In options, select your library, and check your institution’s borrowing limit. Hoopla is especially useful when you want a legitimate library loan instead of an ad-supported stream, but the selection may be smaller or different from a neighboring library’s catalog.
7. Xumo Play
Best for free live channels without creating an account. Xumo describes Xumo Play as offering more than 350 channels and 15,000 on-demand titles. Its site says there is no subscription and no login needed, with a current Watch now button leading to Xumo Play.

- REST ASSURED TO BUY:Add the projector screen to your shopping cart now,We will provide you with 24 hours of professional after-sales service,If you are not satisfied for any reason,Please contact us,We will give you a satisfactory answer.
Xumo Play is ad-supported and availability is area-dependent: Xumo explicitly warns that its services are “not available in all areas.” If the service or a particular channel does not appear where you live, that is likely a regional availability issue rather than a problem with your browser. It is a strong option for casual viewing and live-channel browsing, while on-demand availability may be more limited for a specific film search.
8. FilmRise
Best for finding FilmRise channels and apps on supported platforms. FilmRise operates a catalog and distribution business covering film, television, true crime, new releases, and creator content. Its official site includes Film, Television, True Crime, Our Catalog, and a search field.
Recommended Free Tools
FilmRise is best understood as a source of free ad-supported movie and television channels and apps distributed through particular devices and partner platforms. The official FilmRise site does not establish that every listed title can be streamed free directly from the FilmRise website. Search for the specific FilmRise app or channel on your smart-TV, streaming-device, or platform store, then confirm the title’s viewing terms there.
This distinction matters: a catalog page or distributor listing is not automatically a promise that every item is available for direct, free web streaming.
9. YouTube Movies & Shows
Best for checking whether a particular movie has an official free option. The official YouTube Movies & Shows page includes a mixture of rentals, purchases, free ad-supported titles, and other YouTube content. It is not accurate to say that everything on YouTube Movies is free.
Open an individual title and inspect the available button or price. A legitimate free option should be clearly presented as free or ad-supported. Be cautious with search results that merely contain a full-length upload: YouTube hosts both authorized and unauthorized uploads, and the existence of a video does not prove that the uploader has distribution rights. Prefer official distributor, studio, or clearly identified platform channels.

Best for older, archival, and historically significant material. The Internet Archive Feature Films collection is part of the Internet Archive’s free digital library. It can be valuable for exploring films that are difficult to find on commercial services.
Do not assume that every film in the collection is public domain or cleared for unrestricted redistribution. The collection page confirms that the films are hosted in a feature-film collection; it does not grant blanket rights to every item. Check the individual item page, rights statement, uploader information, and any other available licensing notes before downloading, re-uploading, or redistributing a film.

- Multi-Scenario Application:From creating an immersive home theater in your living room to facilitating presentations in classrooms and offices, or hosting outdoor movie nights in the backyard or on vacation. Projector screen outdoor durability and easy setup make it a versatile tool for entertainment, education, and business.
For ordinary personal viewing, the archive may be a useful research and discovery resource. For publishing, commercial use, or redistribution, title-by-title rights verification is essential.
How to choose the right alternative
- Want the broadest simple free starting point? Try Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, or Plex.
- Prefer live channels? Pluto TV, Xumo Play, The Roku Channel, and Plex are the strongest fits.
- Want documentaries or independent films? Check Kanopy first if your library or university participates.
- Have a library card? Compare both Kanopy and Hoopla; their catalogs and borrowing rules are different.
- Want to watch without creating an account? Xumo Play says no login is needed, and Tubi says no subscription or credit card is required. Availability and optional account features still vary.
- Looking for one specific older movie? Search Tubi, Plex, YouTube’s individual title page, and Internet Archive, while checking the rights and payment label for each result.
- Want offline viewing? Hoopla says most titles can be downloaded to a phone or tablet, subject to library and title restrictions.
Safety checklist for free movie streaming
- Use the service’s official website or the app store built into your TV, phone, console, or streaming device.
- Check whether the title is labeled free, ad-supported, rental, or purchase before pressing play.
- Do not enter a credit-card number into a pop-up claiming that a “special player” or “verification” is required.
- Avoid download buttons and browser notifications that are not part of the official service interface.
- Remember that ads are normal on legal FAST services; aggressive redirects, forced extensions, and fake alerts are not.
- For YouTube and Internet Archive, evaluate the uploader or item rights information rather than assuming that availability proves authorization.
- Expect regional differences. A service, channel, or movie available in the United States may not be available in another country.
What about Freevee?
Older lists often include Freevee as a separate standalone alternative. Its current independent status was not confirmed from an accessible official source for this comparison, so it is not presented here as a verified separate 2026 service. Check the current Amazon interface if you specifically want to locate any free ad-supported programming associated with that brand or catalog.

No. YouTube includes free ad-supported titles, rentals, purchases, and user uploads. Check the individual movie page and prefer official distributor or studio sources.
Are all Internet Archive feature films public domain?

The Bottom Line
For most viewers, Tubi is the best first stop, with Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Plex, and Xumo Play offering strong live-and-on-demand alternatives. Library members should also test Kanopy and Hoopla. Use YouTube and Internet Archive more carefully: verify the individual title’s free-viewing terms and rights rather than assuming that every available upload is authorized or free.
