For a film that shows a different side of his range, try Hoard; for recent franchise work, look to A Quiet Place: Day One or The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This ranking weighs Quinn’s role and performance alongside the appeal of each title, so brief appearances are included as curiosities rather than presented as leading showcases.
10 Joseph Quinn movies and TV shows to watch
-
Stranger Things season 4 (2022) — Eddie Munson
Quinn’s breakout role is the clearest starting point for most viewers. Eddie is a metal-loving outsider who forms a friendship with Dustin and becomes part of the season’s emotional core. His self-sacrificing arc gives Quinn room to make a supporting character memorable. Season 4 works as a Quinn showcase, though newcomers will get more context from watching the series from the beginning. JustWatch’s guide to Quinn’s roles describes Eddie’s appearances and character.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) — Johnny Storm / Human Torch
This major franchise role puts Quinn in a warmer, more openly heroic register than Eddie or some of his darker characters. JustWatch highlights the compassion he brings to Johnny Storm. The film is a good pick for viewers curious about Quinn in a large-scale studio lead role; audience and critic reception are not interchangeable measures, and any scores change over time.
-
A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) — Eric
Quinn co-stars with Lupita Nyong’o in this prequel, which follows new characters in New York on the first day of the invasion. With dialogue limited by the film’s premise, facial expression and physical presence carry much of the work. Quinn’s Eric is an emotionally legible, memorable counterpoint to the surrounding danger. The Associated Press’s 2024 profile of breakout performers also discusses the film’s new-character approach.

Hoard (2023/2024 release listings) — Michael
For a sharp contrast with the sympathetic energy of Eddie Munson, choose this independent drama. Quinn plays Michael as manipulative and malicious, making the role one of his most striking departures from franchise work. It is a stronger recommendation for viewers seeking performance contrast than for anyone looking for an easygoing watch. Reception figures can split sharply: Rotten Tomatoes’ captured listing showed 94% critics and 55% audience, a snapshot rather than a permanent rating.
-
Warfare (2025) — Sam
Quinn takes an ensemble role in an intense contemporary war film co-written and co-directed by former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Sam is identified as a semi-fictionalized member of Mendoza’s SEAL team. This is a choice for viewers interested in Quinn in a grounded military setting, but the film’s subject matter and intensity make it a difficult watch. SlashFilm’s ranking gives further context on the role.
Rank #2
-
Dickensian (2015) — Arthur Havisham
This early television credit is a useful stop for fans tracing Quinn’s period-drama work. The series brings characters from Charles Dickens’s novels together in a shared story; Quinn plays Arthur Havisham. It is less of a single-role showcase than Stranger Things, but offers a look at his earlier screen work.
-
Catherine the Great (2019) — Paul Petrovich
Quinn appears as Catherine’s son in this historical drama. His screen time is limited beside the later starring roles on this list, so it is best approached as an early-career credit for viewers following his television work rather than as a Quinn-led performance.

Gladiator II (2024) — Emperor Geta
Quinn plays one of the twin emperors in Ridley Scott’s historical action spectacle. Geta is a supporting role, not the center of the film, but JustWatch characterizes him as layered and unusual within Quinn’s screen persona. It is most rewarding as a glimpse of his range inside a large ensemble. The Associated Press quoted Quinn reflecting on watching Scott and Denzel Washington at work: “When you go and you see ancient Rome and you see Denzel Washington inhabit it and watch Ridley Scott make a film, those things have a profound change in you.”
-
Overlord (2018) — Grunauer
A brief appearance for horror and action fans, not a major Quinn showcase: he appears in the film’s opening sequence. SlashFilm notes that calling Overlord a Joseph Quinn movie would be a stretch, which is why it belongs near the bottom of a performance-focused ranking.
Rank #4
-
Howards End (2017) — Leonard Bast
This period-drama credit rounds out Quinn’s early television work alongside more recent franchise and genre films. It is a useful pick for viewers who want to follow his British television appearances, though the available role detail is less extensive than for the other entries.
