It includes swordfighters, martial artists, a gunslinger, and characters whose powers shape how they fight—not just characters with the biggest destructive feats.
Spoiler note: The descriptions below discuss abilities and some story-defining combat roles.
How this ranking defines a fighter
Anime uses “fighter” broadly. A duel with a sword, a martial-arts bout, a gunfight, and a supernatural battle are all combat, but they test different skills and cannot be measured on one reliable power scale. The order below is an editorial ranking, not a claim that one character could defeat every other character across their separate fictional worlds.
The list favors characters who actively take part in combat and have a distinctive way of doing it. It also makes room for different genres: Utena’s formal sword duels, for example, work by different rules and serve a different dramatic purpose than a conventional battle series. Characters whose appeal is primarily abstract or reality-altering power are not the focus here.

The 10 best female fighters in anime
1. Android 18 — Dragon Ball
Android 18 earns the top spot for combining formidable physical combat with a concise, clearly established record of impact. The Dragon Ball Official Site describes her as a mechanized warrior with an effectively inexhaustible energy reactor and recounts her defeat of the newly awakened Super Saiyan Vegeta. That is a striking feat within her own series—not a universal measure that can be directly compared with magic, firearms, or another franchise’s power system.
She also remains part of the franchise’s later tournament material, giving her role in combat a life beyond a single early clash. Her distinguishing strength is the combination of sustained energy and practical fighting ability.
2. Erza Scarlet — Fairy Tail
Erza’s Requip magic lets her change equipment rapidly, making her a versatile swordswoman rather than a fighter locked into one weapon or approach. That flexibility is the core of her place on this list: adapting her gear to a fight gives her more options than a straightforward contest of strength.
She represents the high-magic end of the ranking, where preparation and switching tactics are part of the combat style. Her powers belong to Fairy Tail’s own rules, so they should not be treated as directly comparable to a martial artist’s technique or a gunfighter’s precision.
Rank #2
- Naruto Uzumaki, as seen in "NARUTO: Shippuden," rejoins S.H.Figuarts with all new joint technology
- [Set Contents] Main Body, Three left and four right optional hands, Four optional expressions, Kunai, "Rasengan" effect, Crossed arm parts
- Stands approximately 5.5" tall
- The product box will have a Bandai Namco warning label, which is proof that you are purchasing an officially licensed product
3. Biscuit Krueger — Hunter x Hunter
Biscuit brings together combat technique, exceptional physical capability, and experience as a mentor. Her appeal is not only that she can fight; she understands what training demands and can guide other fighters while remaining a capable combatant herself.
That blend of practical skill and teaching experience distinguishes her from characters whose standing rests mainly on a supernatural ability. In a ranking that values more than raw power, the fighter who can develop skill as well as use it has a strong case.
4. Genkai — Yu Yu Hakusho
Genkai is the veteran martial artist on this list: a fighter whose experience, discipline, and spirit-energy techniques are central to her identity. Her role in the series connects combat skill with the transmission of knowledge, giving her significance both as a participant in fights and as a guide to younger characters.
She earns her place through that combination of mastery and influence. Rather than ranking her by an unsupported cross-series strength comparison, it is more useful to recognize the specific tradition she represents: the seasoned teacher who has earned her authority in combat.

5. Nezuko Kamado — Demon Slayer
Nezuko fights at close quarters and brings supernatural durability and abilities to her battles. That makes her a different kind of combatant from the trained swordswomen elsewhere on this list: her fighting identity is tied to what she is as well as how she engages an opponent.
Her inclusion recognizes the memorable role of supernatural combat in Demon Slayer without flattening its rules into a generic “power level.” Her style is most distinct when considered in the context of her own story and the close-range situations she faces.
6. Jolyne Cujoh — JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean
Jolyne’s Stone Free ability gives her a creative, tactical style built around string manipulation. Rather than treating combat as a simple exchange of force, her approach makes room for traps and inventive uses of her power.
That problem-solving quality is why she ranks above fighters whose strengths are easier to describe in terms of physical force alone. Her battles reward attention to how an ability is used, not just what it can do in theory.

7. Revy — Black Lagoon
Revy offers the list’s most grounded contrast to magical and supernatural fighters. Her combat profile centers on firearms skill, precision, and an aggressive approach; she does not need an energy system or a transformation to make her presence in a fight credible.
Putting a gunslinger alongside martial artists and powered fighters highlights an important distinction: weapon handling and composure in a gunfight are not the same skills as swordsmanship or hand-to-hand technique. Revy’s place rests on her clear identity as a firearms-focused combatant.
8. Akame — Akame ga Kill!
Akame is an assassin and swordswoman, a combination that puts training and precision at the center of her combat identity. In contrast with characters whose strengths primarily come from broad magical versatility, her appeal is the focused skill of a fighter shaped for lethal encounters.
She represents the assassin archetype on this list: a combatant whose methods and role are inseparable. The series’ specific weapon and outcomes are best understood in their story context rather than used to assert a universal ranking across anime.

9. Clare — Claymore
Clare fights within Claymore’s supernatural system, which includes Yoki abilities, and her combat profile also involves regeneration. Those traits make her fights different from a conventional sword duel: physical combat takes place alongside fictional powers that affect how a fighter endures and responds.
She earns her place for combining a weapon-based style with that distinct supernatural framework. Her ranking does not assume that regeneration or energy powers translate neatly into superiority over characters from unrelated series.
10. Utena Tenjou — Revolutionary Girl Utena
Utena broadens the list beyond battle-focused action anime. She is athletic and participates in sword duels, but those duels operate within a symbolic power system and a story concerned with more than who wins a physical contest.
That difference is a strength, not a mismatch: Utena shows how combat can carry thematic meaning as well as demonstrate technique. She closes the ranking as a reminder that “best fighter” can include a character whose duels matter because of what they represent.

A strongest-character list would need a narrower and more explicit comparison system: which versions of each character count, what conditions govern a match, and how different fictional abilities interact. There is no shared canon that answers those questions for these ten characters. A fighter who excels at a gunfight, a supernatural duel, or a formal sword match cannot be placed on a single objective scale without making assumptions the stories themselves do not establish.
This ranking instead recognizes several forms of combat excellence: Android 18’s demonstrated impact, Erza’s equipment-based adaptability, Biscuit and Genkai’s relationship to training, Jolyne’s tactical use of an unusual ability, and Revy’s grounded firearms skill. The balance could change for a list limited to protagonists, martial artists, or supernatural power, but that would answer a narrower question.
