A full eight-film ranking cannot yet be published, because the other candidates lack worldwide totals that can be compared on the same basis. This article explains what the verified figures measure, which Chan credits count, and what a complete list would require.
What “highest-grossing” measures here
This article ranks films by worldwide theatrical gross for each individual film, in nominal US dollars as reported by The Numbers. It does not adjust for inflation, does not add together a franchise’s totals across its sequels, and does not use domestic or single-country figures. Each of those measures can produce a different order.
Which Chan credits count
Chan’s official filmography lists him in both live-action and voice roles, so this article counts both. The confirmed credits are:
- Monkey (voice) in Kung Fu Panda and Kung Fu Panda II
- Mr. Han in The Karate Kid
- Inspector Lee in Rush Hour 2
Cameo appearances are not separately established for any title covered here, so no film is included or excluded on that basis.

The Kung Fu Panda figures
The Numbers lists worldwide grosses for four Kung Fu Panda films, accessed 8 October 2026. Chan’s official filmography confirms his voice credit in only two of them.
| Film | Worldwide gross (The Numbers, accessed 8 October 2026) | Chan credit in official filmography | Counted in this ranking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kung Fu Panda 2 | $664,837,547 | Monkey (voice) | Yes |
| Kung Fu Panda | $632,203,486 | Monkey (voice) | Yes |
| Kung Fu Panda 4 | $550,702,463 | Not confirmed | No |
| Kung Fu Panda 3 | $520,189,225 | Not confirmed | No |
Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda are therefore the two highest verified worldwide figures for films that carry a confirmed Chan credit. The two lower totals are large, but the official filmography does not tie Chan to those titles, so they do not count toward his ranking.
Live-action credits without a comparable figure
The Karate Kid and Rush Hour 2 are confirmed Chan credits, but the sources used for this article do not give a worldwide gross for either film. Neither can be placed in an order with confidence.
Several ranking pages list Chan films alongside worldwide-gross columns. The figures and methods on those pages could not be checked against a primary box-office database, so this article does not rely on them.
Rank #3
Regional historical figures are not worldwide totals
The Hong Kong Film Archive publishes two earnings figures for older Chan films. Neither can be set beside a worldwide total:
- The Young Master (1980): more than HK$10 million. This is a regional figure in Hong Kong dollars.
- Rumble in the Bronx: more than US$30 million in its nationwide US release. This covers the United States only.
The archive entries do not state a publication year, so they describe historical earnings without a reporting date.

Why an eight-place list is not published yet
An ordered top eight would need eight films with figures that are comparable with one another. The current evidence falls short of that in four ways:
- Only two films with a confirmed Chan credit have a checked worldwide figure.
- No single box-office database covering all candidate films has been checked on the same basis.
- Role eligibility is not settled for every candidate, including whether cameo appearances count.
- The secondary ranking pages that circulate online have unverified figures.
Until those gaps close, any eight-place order would mix figures that are not comparable, so this article does not offer one.

What a complete ranking requires
- State the measure at the top of the list, such as nominal worldwide theatrical gross per film.
- List every eligible credit from Chan’s official filmography, marking each as live-action, voice or cameo.
- Take each film’s worldwide gross from one database, and record the database name and the date it was accessed.
- Leave out any film that lacks a figure from that database, rather than filling the gap from another source.
- Rank the films, and note any ties or re-release totals beneath the table.
