No official ranking of the strongest anime characters from the 2020s exists, and a single numbered order across different series is an editorial opinion. A list is only worth reading when it states three things up front: which characters qualify, where its continuity cutoff sits, and which kinds of ability it measures. This guide sets those rules, then tests them on the one franchise where official character material is easy to check, Jujutsu Kaisen. It does not publish a numbered top ten, because a cross-series order needs a shared scale that the official sources do not provide.
Start with scope, because the title does not settle it
“From the 2020s” can mean two different things. It can mean a series whose anime debuted between 2020 and 2029, or a character whose notable anime appearance fell in that decade. A long-running series that started before 2020 but has its best-known fights in a 2020s season fits only the second reading. Pick one reading, state it, and apply it to every entry.
The second decision is whether feats come only from the anime or from the published manga as well. Both choices are legitimate, but they produce different lists and different levels of verifiability.

Why the cutoff must be printed
A cutoff tells readers exactly how far the evidence runs. Without it, a list may mix feats from different points in a story and present them as one current standing. A secondary Jujutsu Kaisen ranking page limits itself to events through the manga’s Shinjuku Showdown arc, which is the kind of boundary every list should show. A list that stops at one arc and a list that runs past it can order the same characters differently, and neither is wrong for its own scope.

Print the cutoff as a date and a marker, for example “anime episodes aired through the last episode checked on the date stated” or “manga chapters through the arc named.” A vague phrase like “the latest material” does not tell a reader what was excluded.
Five criteria for comparing characters across series
Characters from different universes do not share a power unit, so every cross-series ranking rests on judgment. The most defensible approach is to score each candidate on the same five criteria and to record the evidence for each score.

Fan power calculations, wiki numbers, and “the math says” arguments are not shown facts. Keep them out of a scored list, or label them clearly as opinion if you mention them.
When power systems cannot be compared directly
Some matchups are unusual enough that a single line is misleading. Two characters whose abilities work on different rules may never have fought, and the story may not establish which rule wins. An honest list handles this in three ways:

- It places such characters in the same tier rather than in a strict sequence.
- It states the reason in one sentence, for example that the abilities operate under different rules and no shared-scenario fight exists.
- It avoids a position that implies a fight result the series never showed.
Jujutsu Kaisen: what the official material establishes
The official Jujutsu Kaisen anime site lists a roster of franchise characters, and its character pages describe several of them. Those descriptions give franchise context. They do not rank anyone against characters from other series. As of October 2026, the relevant official entries say the following.

The table shows why Jujutsu Kaisen is a useful test case. It supplies enough to confirm who the main characters are and to read two specific descriptions. It does not supply a shared yardstick, so a ranking that places Gojo or Sukuna above or below a character from another series is an editorial judgment built on the five criteria above.

How to build your own top ten
- Write the scope line first: anime-only or manga-inclusive, the release-year rule you chose, and the cutoff as a dated marker.
- Choose the eligible franchises, then check each candidate against that franchise’s official character pages and the episodes or chapters your scope allows.
- Score each candidate on the five criteria, recording one piece of evidence per criterion, with the episode number or chapter.
- Write “not stated” where a criterion has no evidence, rather than guessing a score.
- Group characters with incompatible power systems into tiers, and give the one-sentence reason for each grouping.
- Label the whole list as an editorial ranking at the top, next to the scope line.
Red flags in 2020s strongest-character lists
Readers can test any list quickly. Be cautious when you see one of the following:
- No cutoff date, or a cutoff described only as “latest.”
- Anime-only feats and manga-only feats ranked side by side without a label.
- Power ratings presented as official figures, when no official source gives them.
- Fan calculations or wiki numbers presented as measured results.
- Ten names with no shared criteria, so the order cannot be checked.
- An ordering described as canon or official.
A list that avoids these problems is still an opinion, but it is an opinion you can check, disagree with, and rebuild on your own terms.
