One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchSome of the original Japanese Iron Chef stars remain visible through current restaurant and television work; others are remembered through a family restaurant legacy or historical accounts. The clearest present-day update is for Masaharu Morimoto. A 2024 profile described Rokusaburo Michiba as still working, while Chen Kenichi died in 2023. The show’s Iron Chef roster changed over time, and reliable current information is not established for every chef who held a seat.
Why there was no single, unchanging roster
Ryōri no Tetsujin, the Japanese cooking competition known internationally as Iron Chef, made its chefs recognizable well beyond their restaurants. Its Japanese, French, Chinese and Italian seats passed among different chefs over the program’s history. Morimoto, Michiba, Chen Kenichi and Hiroyuki Sakai are among the best-known names associated with the original series, but “the original Iron Chefs” does not describe one fixed lineup.
A regional Prime Video catalog listing describes the program as a Japanese competition and includes retrospective episodes about Michiba and Chen and Sakai. That is useful historical context, not confirmation that the original series is currently available to stream everywhere; catalog availability varies by region.

Masaharu Morimoto: restaurant and television work
Morimoto remains publicly active in food and television. His official website promotes OEN Omakase in Montclair, New Jersey, and season two of Morimoto’s Sushi Master, which streams on Roku. These are the projects his site highlights now; a list of cities or restaurants in a biography should not be taken as proof that every past location is still open.

It says he became a star of Iron Chef America in 1999 and that his first Philadelphia restaurant opened in 2001. In 2023, he served as executive producer and head judge of Roku’s Morimoto’s Sushi Master.
Morimoto’s book Morimoto: The New Art of Japanese Cooking won two International Association of Culinary Professionals awards, including the Julia Child Award for Best First Book, according to his official biography.

Rokusaburo Michiba: a 2024 account of continued work
Michiba is identified by the official profile for Ginza Rokusantei as the first Japanese Iron Chef. The restaurant’s profile says it opened in 1971 and gives its Ginza address. A separate profile published in 2024 described Michiba, then 93, as still devoted to cooking and working. That is a dated account, not independent confirmation of his activity in 2026 or a report on his daily schedule.
Chen Kenichi: a family restaurant legacy
Known as Iron Chef Chinese, Chen died in 2023. His legacy is associated with the Shisen Hanten family restaurant tradition. The restaurant group’s press release presents him as a celebrated Iron Chef and describes the continuation of that culinary legacy; it supports the family-business connection, rather than a claim that Chen is still working.

What is established about the other familiar names
Hiroyuki Sakai, Yutaka Ishinabe and Komei Nakamura are historically connected to the series, but the available authoritative material does not establish what they are doing today. A regional catalog entry helps confirm historical cast context; it cannot answer a current-status question. The available material also does not establish a sufficiently authoritative current update for Masahiko Kobe or the present status of Ristorante Massa. Historical fame alone is not evidence of a chef’s current work or a restaurant’s current operation.
