Spoiler warning: this page names both moments. Clark tells Lana his secret in season 5, episode 12, “Reckoning,” but that reveal is later undone when Clark reverses the timeline. Two moments that answer the same question
Viewers asking when Lana finds out are usually thinking of one of two events, and they are not the same thing:
- Being told: Clark explicitly reveals his secret to Lana in season 5, episode 12, “Reckoning.”
- Finding out for good: Lana discovers Clark’s abilities in season 6, after watching him save Chloe, a storyline TV Guide ties to “Promise.”
The first is the scene people remember. The second is the one that stays in Lana’s knowledge once the timeline changes.
What happens in “Reckoning” (season 5, episode 12)
Several platform listings agree on the episode’s position and content. The table below lists what each one states.

The episode number and the reveal are therefore consistent across three separate catalogues. Their descriptions are summaries for identification, not quoted statements from the production.
Why the reveal does not stick
The disclosure in “Reckoning” takes place in a timeline that Clark later reverses. Because that timeline is undone, the reveal is not part of Lana’s continuing knowledge, and it is the reason “Reckoning” alone is an incomplete answer. Anyone citing the episode as the moment Lana learns the secret should add the reset, or they will misdescribe the storyline.
When Lana actually finds out: season 6, “Promise”
TV Guide’s season 6 episode guide describes Lana discovering Clark’s secret after she witnesses him save Chloe using his abilities. The guide associates that discovery with “Promise.” This is the moment that carries forward, and it is the correct answer to the question as most viewers mean it.
The season 6 description is the only source here that places the discovery, so treat the episode association as the guide’s claim rather than an independently verified scene breakdown.

How to phrase the question
- Literal question: “When does Lana find out about Clark’s secret in Smallville?”
- Follow-up question: “Does Lana find out in ‘Reckoning’?” The short answer is that Clark tells her in that episode, but the timeline is later reversed, so the discovery that lasts happens in season 6.
Evidence limits
- Episode numbering for “Reckoning” is consistent across ITVX, Apple TV and Prime Video listings.
- The season 6 discovery rests on TV Guide’s season guide, not on a separate episode-level synopsis.
