The season-four finale of The Boys was first titled “Assassination Run.” When it premiered on Prime Video on July 18, 2024, it was listed as “Season Four Finale.” That release came five days after the July 13, 2024 attempt on Donald Trump’s life, and the episode also opened with a viewer discretion warning and a statement opposing real-world violence. The production side says the episode was filmed in 2023, before the attempt took place. The reporting supports a change in title and presentation at release. It does not support a claim that the fictional storyline was rewritten in response to the event.
What changed at release
Coverage identifies two titles for the same episode. The working title was “Assassination Run,” and the title used at release was “Season Four Finale.” Forbes reported both titles and linked the change to the attempt on Trump’s life. The distinction matters, because the change concerns the label attached to the episode, not the episode’s content.

Timeline
- July 13, 2024: An attempt on Donald Trump’s life takes place.
- July 18, 2024: The season-four finale premieres on Prime Video as “Season Four Finale,” with a viewer discretion warning and a statement opposing real-world violence.
These are the dates reported in coverage from July 2024. This article does not verify how the episode is labeled on Prime Video today, so readers checking the platform now may see different wording.
The warning and the joint statement
The release included a joint statement from the production and distribution entities. Reports from the Los Angeles Times and TV Insider quoted the central sentence:
#1 Best Overall
“Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of The Boys oppose, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind.”
The same statement said that any similarity between scenes or plotlines and real-world events was “coincidental and unintentional.” The statement is attributed to the named companies and production, not to a single spokesperson, so it should be quoted that way.

When the episode was made
A Sony Pictures Television spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that the episode was filmed in 2023, which is more than a year before the July 2024 attempt. Filming dates establish when the episode was produced. They do not by themselves settle how the title or warning was chosen, and the coverage does not describe internal decisions beyond the timing of the release changes.
Plot and presentation are separate questions
Coverage from The Washington Post described the finale’s fictional assassination storyline in the context of the attempt. TVLine described the finale’s political violence and noted that its release timing was sensitive. Those reports discuss the episode’s content and context. They do not show that the storyline was altered after the attempt.

| Question | What the reporting supports | What it does not support |
|---|---|---|
| Did the title change? | Yes, from “Assassination Run” to “Season Four Finale” at release | A specific reason stated by the production |
| Was a warning added? | Yes, a viewer discretion warning accompanied the release | That the warning replaced earlier content |
| Was the episode made in response to the attempt? | No. Filming is reported as 2023 | Any claim of post-attempt rewriting of the plot |
| Is the fictional assassination storyline related to the real event? | Similarity was described as coincidental and unintentional | An intentional link between the show and the attempt |
What this establishes
The episode’s title and opening notices changed around its July 18, 2024 release, after a real attempt on Trump’s life five days earlier. The production says the episode was filmed before that attempt, and it describes any resemblance to real events as unintended. Readers should treat the change as a release-time presentation decision, not as evidence that the season’s story was revised because of the event.
Commercial interest in this story is limited. The question is about what changed on the episode, so it is answered by the title, the warning, and the statement above.
Rank #4
Based on coverage from the period, these are the facts that can be stated with confidence. Later changes to the platform’s labels are outside what this article establishes.
