The Season 7 trailer moves Mel and Jack past their Season 6 wedding and into a question of parenthood. Marley, who had hoped her baby would be adopted, asks the newly married couple to raise the child. That request, rather than the wedding itself, is what makes the trailer point the show in a new direction. Season 7 has been streaming on Netflix since March 12, 2026.
What the trailer sets up
Mel and Jack are now Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan after marrying at the end of Season 6. Marley, who is pregnant and had planned to place her baby for adoption, asks the couple to become the child’s parents. Netflix’s own description of the trailer says accepting the offer is not necessarily simple, and the season is built around that tension.

The trailer does not stop with Mel and Jack. It also flags several other storylines:
- Lizzie and Denny are preparing for their first child.
- Kaia is weighing whether she is ready to settle down with Preacher.
- Brie is reconnecting with Brady.
- Hope and Doc are dealing with problems of their own.
- Mel and Jack are navigating their honeymoon.
What “major shift” means here
The phrase is this article’s interpretation of the trailer, not a Netflix description. The change is in the kind of story being told. Season 6 ended with a wedding, a payoff for a long romance. Season 7 starts from that point and asks what a married couple does when a child enters the picture and they have to decide, together, whether to take it on.
#1 Best Overall
The table below compares the two stages across three axes. It is an interpretive reading anchored in the official Season 6 wedding and the Season 7 synopsis, not a formal breakdown from the production.
| Axis | Season 6 finale | Season 7 (per trailer and Netflix’s synopsis) |
|---|---|---|
| Relationship stage | Courtship ends in marriage | Married life and the honeymoon phase |
| Family stakes | Romance is the central question | Adoption of Marley’s baby and parenthood are on the table |
| Setting and daily life | The wedding | Building a home and life on the farm, which Netflix says “can come with its own obstacles” |

New cast members
Netflix named three new cast members for Season 7:
- Sara Canning plays Victoria, a former police officer who now works as an investigator for a state medical board.
- Cody Kearsley plays Clay, a character with a connection to rodeo who is searching for his younger sister.
- Austin Nichols plays a figure from Mel’s past. Netflix’s material does not describe the character further.
What the showrunner has said
Netflix Tudum attributes the following line to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith after the Season 6 wedding: “There’s a lot more to go here with these characters.”
In describing Season 7, Smith said the season will “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.” That line is a description of what the season covers, drawn from Netflix Tudum’s coverage, and it is the basis for the “life on the farm” axis in the comparison above.

Source material
Netflix says the series is based on the books by Robyn Carr. The official sources cited here do not tie Season 7 to any one novel, so the season should not be read as a direct adaptation of a specific installment. Readers who want the source material can start with the novels, but they should not expect Season 7’s storylines to follow a particular book.

The sources used for this article do not include viewership figures or audience numbers for Season 7, so none are reported here. Netflix’s announcements also do not give details on how the Marley adoption storyline resolves, and the trailer leaves that question open.
Rank #4
Plot details for Season 7 beyond the trailer and Netflix’s synopsis are not included here. Those details are the subject of a different kind of coverage, and readers who want to avoid spoilers should stop at the premise described above.
Based on the source-material note, Robyn Carr’s novels remain the one optional companion to the series that Netflix’s official material supports.
